Anyone else around the country experiencing problems? speak up now :p

For myself Linksfield is not working at the moment (when I called in this morning it is a 2nd level support issue).

I am in Durban and cannot connect...........'Network not available - please try again later' error. :(
Using dialup :(

Trying to connect to tower 126 (Durbanville) - "Error 678. The remote computer did not respond".

Been like that since 20:30 last night. Back on trusty old ISDN at the moment... :(

Ditto from Durban!! Was on last night at 6pm made the mistake of logging off to go do supper and came back at 8pm and was still off. Last time I checked Sentech was 10h00 this morning and still no response!

Apparently the main Router has lost all its configurations.
How this happened, well your guess is as good as mine.

tower 110 went down at 20.12 last night till 12.30 today
i think in the last week, total downtime has been close to 24 hours

A colleague complained and received this email from Sentech yesterday:

please accept our apology for the poor service you experienced over the last 3 weeks. Customers downloading email from different ISP's and connecting to the internet are experiencing slow download speed and "time outs". One of the major contributing factors to this problem is that one of our peering partners is experiencing network outages. This causes pressure on our other partners peering links resulting in packet loss and time outs for Sentech customers. Our engineers and technical people are in contact with our partners to see if we can help to resolve this ongoing problem.

In defense.... Quoting from "our" press release...
......Sentech's MyWireless emerged as the winner in a comprehensive study on all
the South African wireless broadband services....................Sentech's MyWireless performed consistently in all departments and emerged a
comfortable winner with an overall result of 87%.

Vodacom's 3G finished second with 81%, followed by iBurst with 80% and MTN's
3G with 78%.

RA, at the time of "our" tests which preceded "our" press release, Sentech *was* performing to its capabilities, during the day as well, Since about mid-September (for me anyway), daytime performance has dropped severly. Have a look at this from yesterday and remember, I'm on 256

A summary of the tcpiq page :
Last 24 hrs 88.90 KBits/sec
Last 7 days 101.20 KBits/sec

So were these tests done before the Mid September period or more recently, or are they ongoing?

(and the "our" was referring to MYADSL by the way not Sentech, not trying to claim any ownership here :o )

You want frustration? try being the person who is seling the product with these outages and downtimes. I could share some really choice emails I have received from customers!!!

That said.............. from my perspective I am still unashamedly a Sentech supporter and truly believe that MyWireless is currently the best product in South Africa, I woudn't still be selling it if I didn't truly believe that!
:)

Tests from 1-8 Sept. I assumed "our" to be MyAdsl, Sentech wouldn't have the guts to do something like that :) My downtime has been limited compared to others, but in saying that, July-mid Sept I had something like 1 hour downtime, and almost 4 days since then. I don't mind daytime performance to be slightly worse than the "quiet" hours, but *not* to this extent and lasting until 10 at night :(

i totally agree with that. I gave reliability a relative low score in the survey, b/c previously (not talking about last year here) Sentech was relatively able to keep me connected for days on end. The last month (since their 'maintenance' in september) it seems a whole different story, and you only realise you take connectivity for granted when it not there.

See, i could live with these outages if i knew that it was all for the greater good and that sentech is 'continuously working on it's infrastructure to provide increasingly better user experience' (quotes added to indicate light sarcasm and sceptiscism). But frankly, none of the promises that were made to me when i signed up (prices coming down, speeds going up, lalalalala...) have materialised. And my perception is that sentech is just trying to squeeze more money out of their current system by adding more users on flexi (read ripp-off) contracts with ridiculously low caps.

I realise that sentech might be in financial dire straits, and that they can't heavily invest in expanding their infrastructure, but that's partly their own fault. They could have taken the wireless market when they started operations and they buggered up, losing more and more users to ADSL and iBurst. Offer a 512K connection with a 10gig cap (if you must) for the price of Mywi Home and hordes of people will sign up. Hey, for that price, i'll personally recommend the service to anyone i know (unlike now). I can't see a reason why this can't be done except for the fact that the sentech network can't handle that volume of data.

No signal at all

Never mind the network, from about 07h30 yestrday morning until about 15 minutes ago, I could not even find a signal! Began to think there was something wrong with my modem, cos up until yesterday, even when network is down my modem has alway picked up a good strong signal emanating from tower 82...... then voila! as said about 15 mintues ago, signal as strong as one could ever hope for:(
