Hi All,

This is so difficult to get working :
I want the 2 Pc's (both with vista) that I have to share the one iBurst Connection, which is via the USB modem unfortunately ...
So this seems to be near impossible, unless someone knows of a way to accomplish this?
Both Pc's use Ethernet ports, currently connected to the router (not the WAN port, but 1 and 2 port) with static IP's. The problem is with the router settings I guess, but i'm not sure, any help
much appreciated thanks ....

First things first.
>Go into your network connections on the host machine(the one the modem is connected to :)).
> Now right click on the iburst PPPoE connection(the one you dial), go to the sharing tab and enable internet sharing. In the drop down menu select the network adapter that is connected to the router and click ok.
>Click yes to allow windows to change the IP address of the connection.
>Disconnect and reconnect your internet.
>On the second pc change the IP setting to automatic.
>Wait a couple of seconds and you should have internet connectivity. If not reboot both PCs and check to see if there is internet connectivity.

If this doesn't work let us know what make and model your router is and we can try help you from there :>

I don't understand why you have an iBurst modem and a router.

Ok thanks will try that, but must I change the router's IP address?
Router IP: 192.168.10.1
Vista ICS will use the IP 192.168.0.1 ?
Will this be ok?

Vista ICS will use 192.168.137.1 if I'm not mistaken.
I'm not sure about changing the routers IP, maybe put it on the same subnet as the vista pc(192.168.137.x)
I'm not sure if this will work unless your router supports switching mode(or w.e its called)
Can you connect the pc's directly to each other instead of via the router? If you can just do that as it will simplify things.

need help with my sharing

Hi,

I got a iburst usb modem and just bought a IPtime IP04103 wifi router, I have my iburst connection shared between pc's and it worked fine on my old lan switch. Now I can see my shared folders on my laptop but no internet access, has anyone had this problem before? I'm not that clued up with wifi, any help will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance!:)

So you still want your iBurst connection shared through your PC? In this case, your PC still needs to be the 'router', disable the DHCP server on the IPtime and make sure its IP address does not collide with your other PCs. What operating systems are you using?

Thanks,

I have Win Xp om my main pc with the iburst connection and the iptime router. Then my wife and I both have laptops with windows vista on. I see on my control panel for the router that I have a DHCP Server, everything is set as follows:
LAN IP SETUP:
LAN IP 192.168.1.254
Subnet Mask 255 255 255 0

DHCP Server Setup
DHCP Sever (here there is a option for Start and Stop) Here Start is selected
DHCP IP Pool 192.168.1.100 - 192.168.1.200
Lease Time 864000 sec
Then I have 2 options which are not ticked
1. DHCP server protection
2. Enable Internet access only for PC's allocated by DHCP Server

Everything worked fine on my old switch, the reason I bought the router was because of trouble I'm having with my Western Digital HD TV Live media player.
The media player had internet access but it chooses when to allow access to the media shares which are really frustrating, sometimes it works, other days
nothing, I was told because of the DHCP of the router that problem should be solved.

Thanks if the information so far.

LAN IP SETUP:
LAN IP 192.168.1.254
Subnet Mask 255 255 255 0
This isn't going to work, when you share the internet connection on your XP box, its IP address changes to 192.168.0.1 and it becomes a DHCP server, DNS forwarder and the default gateway for your network (basically, it becomes a router).

Change the IP address of your router to 192.168.0.254 so that it is in the same network as your XP box.
DHCP Server Setup
DHCP Sever (here there is a option for Start and Stop) Here Start is selected
DHCP IP Pool 192.168.1.100 - 192.168.1.200
Change this to 192.168.0.100 - 192.168.0.200.
Somewhere will be the option the option to set the default gateway and DNS, set them both to 192.168.0.1.

The media player had internet access but it chooses when to allow access to the media shares which are really frustrating, sometimes it works, other days
nothing, I was told because of the DHCP of the router that problem should be solved.
Is giving the media player a static IP address an option? The thing is your XP box was already providing DHCP and you cannot have two DHCP servers on your network, so might need to disable DHCP on your router anyway, which means your router will be doing nothing besides being a wi-fi access point.

Perhaps you would be better of with a router with a USB port like the one discussed here.
