Just looking for some advice.

Client running neotel fibre using VOIP phones etc. 5mbs line.

They have a Router, PBX, Firewall and Server setup with 5 VM's.

They have constant line drops with the internet receiving the usual google DNS error.

I've setup pingplotter to the following pings:

1. VM (AD)
2. Fibre Router
3. www.google.co.za
4. 8.8.8.8
5. Custom DNS with DynDNS
6. Firewall

Most of the packet drops occur for 3 - 5 at the first two hops,
however the ping setup for 1-2 & 6 never have any drops whatsoever only high latency jumps at around +-40ms.

Any help to what the issue might be?

Don't really understand what you are saying?

Pings from 3-5, from what devices is this? PC's? Wired or wireless?

Pings from any of the 5 VM's even the host is ok with some spikes?

Need some more info.

I presume the firewall is behind the Neotel Fibre router? First thing maybe change the network cable between the Firewall and the router, sounds like possibly hardware issue.

My Notebook running the pings are form wired connection.
3-5 are pinged from my notebook connection to the usual company network via the IP phones.

Neotel advised plugging notebook directly to the fibre router, which I have not done rather plugged the notebook onto the lan port of the Cyberroam. Have packet drops pinging there as well.

I also the last two days experienced packet drops. Sent them (harassed more) all the details. Finally it is sorted today. Also for our PABX. So this is very interesting for me. I will look further into this.

1,2 and 6 will ping (even though higher than normal) because they don't break out to the internet. 3-5 will fail because, no internet.

Do you have VOIP issues when that happens at all?

I suspect your problem is more local. Maybe first replace the network cable between the FW and the switch. Is you switch managed or unmanaged?

Are you dropping packets going from the neotel router out or dropping them internally?
It isn't clear from what you are saying having tested from a point behind the router itself.
Just connect your laptop to the router and stack one of the 5 IP's directly on to your network adapter.

I've tested via the firewall directly, plugged into the Cyberroam LAN port and experienced drops as well.
Yes VOIP issues for months now as well.
Been harassing them as well.

Do you have another connection? ADSL maybe? This will help into see if it is the routing of the Neotel fibre or something else. Not much you can do unless you have proof that Neotel network is crappy.

I have been having similar problems on Neotel fiber.

Packet drops but only to certain sites. I keep a ping -t open to google.co.za and another one to another site and then the other site gets dropped packets but google doesn't, but at the same time I ping the other site from another network with no dropped packets??

Spoke to them on Friday and they said something about network issues on their side which has been sorted but I'm still experiencing the same problems.

Ja I am doing the same but it's still pain in the arse. The support is also rubbish. I sent them my ping plotter results showing that I have packet loss only outside my LAN and they still send me a mail saying that from their side they get no loss. It's there, right there, with a lovely picture and all just to simplify it

Contact Seacom directly if you have Neotel fibre, you can get a 50mbps line for around R6500 international with near 1:1 contention

Think Neotel is a bit crap IMO
