I hope this is the right place to post this but here goes.

As the title suggests I want my main home pc, which has all my media stored on it, to act as a media server. I know you could simply share the contents and the run the main pc and access media from there...but I like to be adventurous and tend to experiment.

Is there a way I can create a web page hosted on the main pc with links to all my media. I want the other pc's to stream the media off my pc via the web browser, like open up VLC player and play the movie when clicked.

Can this be done on Windows 7 Ultimate and how? Any reference site links would be most appreciated as well as personal opinions :)

I think you're looking for something like http://en.jinzora.com/

Jinzora is a web based media streaming and management system, written in PHP.

Streaming your media with Jinzora gives you quick and easy access to your online music and video collection from any device with a web browser.

Enjoy your media from your PC, notebook, PDA, Smart Phone, Xbox, PS3 or Wii.

Use Jinzora in Jukebox Mode to control a hardware device like your stereo set or Squeezebox and third-party software, including MPD, VLC and Shoutcast.

Windows 7 Ultimade and Media Browser (if you want the Pearl addon) and all will work fine via extenders, I stream to multiple XBOX's around the house.
