Network Monitoring Software Recommendations

Hi Guys,

I'm currently using Spiceworks to monitor the companies network, but half the network doesn't pickup due to either WMI/port issues in which I simply don't have time to figure out and resolve (I've tried via forums before).

As an IT Admin I need to know what exactly is happening in the network etc, as I need to report back to the partners.

I recently started looking into Panda Systems Management, Solarwinds(crazy expensive), Spector360 etc.

I need a dashboard, be able to setup reports, remote\patch\software\hardware management, user agents (just makes it easier) etc.

Are there any other recommendations I can look at? Will appreciate it!
 
Solarwinds is expensive, but hands-down the best monitoring platform I've ever used.

Haven't personally used it, but some of my colleagues have and had some positive feedback. Might not be a one-stop shop for everything you need though.

Could not agree more! Solarwinds is the best hands down. (Working for a "Cisco house" it presents me with problems when I recommend Solarwinds over Cisco Prime LMS xD )

I've used OCS for a number of years and I have found it very useful but what it gives you is a snapshot of your current configuration. It doesn't really monitor your network services or that sort of thing.

I have been contemplating implementing Nagios or Zabbix for network monitoring but I haven't taken the plunge yet so I will also be interested in people's feedback on this thread.

Basically the same as what Spiceworks offer, AD integration, user monitoring, installed software, alerts, custom reports etc. We do have a Dell Sonicwall in place, so what the users are up to online I've got completely covered.
 
For network monitoring, you guys can also check out Observium, it is a lot better than Cacti + some other tools. Though it is mostly for graphing and alerts regarding the network, but what makes it much better than Cacti, is like Solarwinds, it also automate the setting up of adding devices, adding graphs and doing most of the manual work for you.

Lastly, it is open source so at least you can run it without it costing you extra monies.
 
Started with the FogLight trial just now, quick to setup, installed on a server VM. So far I can setup desktop agents, custom alerts, remote support etc etc without getting out of my chair. haha :D

I must say the custom alerts are quite nice, a lot of conditions to choose from.
