Network not working right

Hey guys. I really hope that some1 can help me. Here goes:

This afternoon, I turn my pc off, and unplugged it from the wall-socket because there was some thunder in the air.

After I turned my pc on again, I have a blinking orange LED at the back of my box at the network card. It says that the network cable is connected, although my Telkom Wi-fi router doesn't pick it up (the light does not come on , on the wi-fi router ). So I have no internet access now on my pc. We have some other computers in our house that are working fine.

I already tried swopping the cable, restarting and powering off many times.

I have an Asus M2N-MX SE mobo with a nVidia onboard network adapter.


I already restarted my router also.
I did the cmd ipconfig /all thing, here are the results:

I manually configure my IP-address, the subnet and the default gateway (which was provided by my ISP)

I already tried pinging 127.0.0.1 (something I saw while Googeling the problem) and it does not time out.

My connection shows that I am only sending packets but recieving none.


I don't know if I should RESET my router, since all the setting will be gone and I don't have them, which would make the whole home system not able to access the internet

Try ipconfig/release, ipconfig/flushdns and ipconfig/renew
This will redo the network ip's for your computer. Make a backup of your router config (advanced->restore and then "get config") and then if all else fails reset the router and run this config on it.

change your IP settings to auto then try what Froot said - his suggestion won't work with manual settings. When you say you will lose all your settings, what do you mean?

You are best off setting all your machines to auto tcpip settings and using the dhcp server in the modem - what make/model? You don't say and Telkom has had a few different models.

You've pinged 127.0.0.1 which is your computer, which shows that your TCP/IP stack is working. Unfortunately that doesn't rule out possible hardware damage.

Try pinging the gateway, 192.168.0.1, and see if anything happens.

Otherwise change your TCP address settings to auto, let it get something, then try configure manually again. Sometimes networks cards get "stuck" when you pull the cable out like that.

If all else fails, you can pick up a cheap network card for about R100 or less, which would sort things out if your onboard card was shot.

Thanks for the replies guys! I have a Telkom Mega 105WR WiFi modem.

Last night all of a sudden the light on the modem lit up and my connection says that it's now connected at 10mbps (and not 100mpbs), but I still don't recieve any packets any thus can't connect.

I already tried the ip/flushdns ip/release , that didn't help either. I can't ping 192.168.0.1 or any other machine in my home.

I don't know why this is happening, since I just turned my pc off and then when I switched it back on againg...

Yeah sorry, I neglected to mention that you have to change your ipv4 network settings to automatic. After that you need to remove and reinsert the cable and then run the ipconfig/flushdns, ipconfig/release and ipconfig/renew commands. If that does not work, restart the computer and the router.

Okay, so my NIC got some static or something from the thunder. Just popped in a new PCI Network Card, and problem solved.

If the onboard NIC went a-wall, could it be that my motherboard it self, is also damaged? Everything seems to be working just fine though.

Sometimes it does happen that an onboard NIC may get screwed for no reason, it isn't a definite indication that your mb is damaged.
