hi everyone

I have a Netgear DGN2000.

I want to route network traffic between to accounts based on the port number.

Is this possible? I know some people use to route local and international bandwidth to different accounts.

Hi there

I had a look at the router. can you please explain how i will use this in my current setup.

I have the Netgear DGN2000 ADSL Router which connects to my ADSL line from Telkom. Then i connect my pc to it.

Will the mikrotik router replace my current netgear adsl router? i got it a few months ago to replace a 3 month old Linksys wireless Cisco router wrt110 and my wife would more than kill me if i did another incorrect purchase.

I'm just trying to understand if that is all i need.

Just to explain again

I play wow on an unshapped account which runs on 2 ports.

but i want an additional uncapped shaped ADSL account to surf the net and download software.

So im trying to make sure.. if i play wow or any other mmo that my traffic will go over the more expensive unshaped traffic.

Thanks again for your help

No, you will keep your Netgear ADSL router as the Routerboard does not have an ADSL port. The netgear router will have to be configured for bridged-mode so it passes the PPPoE sessions through. The PPPoE sessions will now be configured on the routerboard as will the DNS, Routing etc. Your PC's in turn will connect to the Routerboard and all the routing decisions etc will be transparent to them as they simply just see the LAN ports on your router, same as your current setup but with more routing functionality for your traffic.

Your setup will look like this:
ADSL Line--->Netgear router--->Routerboard--->PC's

The below guide covers everything you need ;)

Edit:
I do however suspect you might lose the wireless function of the netgear router unless you can point the wireless traffic back to the Routerboard somehow but I'm not sure about this. Maybe someone else can clarify.

I also just did a search on your DGN2000 and it looks like there is a 3rd party firmware available for it but not sure what features it offers, http://dgteam.ilbello.com/

Yes it is possible to utilize wireless with that exact setup. I have the same type of configuration where my wireless has Internet access.
Here's my setup: Internet <-> TP-Link ADSL2+ router/modem (with WiFi AP) <-> RB750G <-> PC's

When using wireless, the flow would be a bit different, even though you've connected them with a single cable: PC's (via WiFi) <-> TP-Link <-> RB750G <-> TP-Link <-> Internet

Okay.. I finally got a Mikrotik router.

I had to get the RB750G cause they had no RB750 in stock, I paid just over R700 for it. The prices listed on their website is retailer prices.

So now i'm going to follow the wiki to get my shaped and upshaped account working.

No, you simply put your ADSL router in bridge mode. You can usually do that with a Wizard.

Before you remove the username & password from the ADSL router (or change to bridge mode), add the username and password to a new PPPoE Client connection in the RB750G. Configuring the MikroTik router using WinBox is much easier than using Telnet/SSH.
