Me again :D

I love our new sub-forum, can you tell?

Anyways, I have always had this problem that our clients only allow certain network traffic to go through, eg. they block MSN messenger, Google talk, etc. Basically what I want to do is route all "Messenger traffic" via my 3G connection, and everything else through the company network. Is this possible to do (it must be, and the solution might not only be applicable to MAC).

I am currently running a proxy detection script, to determine the proxy server details according to the ip subnet I am connected to. It should surely be possible to do the same kind of thing for traffic through specific ports?

Dont know how you would do it - but it would be handy for routing local and international traffic over different SPs.

For your needs - wouldnt using a proxy be a cheaper option instead of having to use your 3G?

Not really. We use Skype, MSN and Yahoo as business comms devices, but when connected to the client networks, the block those ports, so you can't connect to the IM servers

Skype you can use any port you like so that shouldnt be a problem. I used to have massive problems on uunet with skype, msn, and ichat but one of Mr Beep's socks proxies took care of that - hence the suggestion. :)

Aah, one of those proxies ... that should work
