Network status messages displayed on cellphone

If I look at my cellphone display it shows me 'Vodacom' and under it some network information of some sort, currently 'Y4L 54% Voda. 54% Other'. What is the meaning of this information and is it of any use? I can disable it quite easily in settings.

Nokia phone : look under settings, phone settings and turn info display off.

I don't know if yebo for less is exclusive to prepaid customers, rather safe than sorry.
