Hi Guys

Can someone help me out with my home network:

Topology.jpg

Due to the configuration of the house I was only able to run a single network cable to the TV room, and then used an old Telkom fibre router with DHCP and wireless disabled as a switch. This allowed me to connect a Ubiqiti AP, TV and PS3.

But now I'm getting troubles with devices connected to the Telkom router (i.e. switch). It seems like when the AP is working the other devices don't work and when the other devices work the AP doesn't work. It's like only a single device works at a time. I'm pretty sure its something to do with the crappy Telkom router, but just want to check if it's possible to construct a network the way I've done it? If so then I may have to go out and buy another Planet switch to get everything in the TV room connected.

Thanks for the help!

Get rid of the Telkom router and replace with a switch.

It's doing something odd. Either the dhcp is on, or it's natting or something. You could probably troubleshoot and fix, but would recommend just getting a switch

Switched out the Telkom Netgear for an old DLINK ADSL router lying around (also from Telkom), and everything works swimmingly.

Spot on!

Still would recommend swapping out for a switch when you get the chance.

Those modem routers are just 4 devices in one - router, switch, wireless AP, modem and sometimes firewall. For now it seems to be working so I'll just go along until it stop working and then I'll consider the R700 for a decent switch if it dies.
