Hi.

I have a Lenovo 3000 series lappy which I use on several different networks, some wired, some wireless.

Up until this weekend, I've had no problems with accessing shares on any of the networks to which I connect, but now I cannot. I am still getting internet off all the networks, but I can't access any shares.

To my knowledge, none of the settings have changed at all.

Any ideas on what could be wrong?

Thanks.

Does the 3000 also uses Thinkvantage Access Connections which make switching between networks easy?

yes. however, nothing in my settings has changed, so I'm confused why all of a sudden i cant access shares...

well if nothing has changed on your machine, try and find out what has changed on the networks. Sorry can't be of much help as this is something you gonna have to troubleshoot.

you or someone else probably stopped or disabled some services on your notebook. make sure the following services are started and set to automatic:
Computer Browser
Network Connections

Have you tried restarting your notebook? What does the event log say?

Ok. Found out what is was by Googling... duh...

When repairing the connection, it was unable to clear NetBT. Google came up with the following: http://forums.techguy.org/t403187.html, which proved very helpful.

A quick (well, not really quick at 1hr 15mins) sweep of adaware got rid of a similar worm to the one on the above thread. Then all I did was reset Winsock and TCP/IP and off I go.

This was an interesting problem, different from the usual rubbish I normally have to deal with. Hope this can save someone else from a reinstall - which I was very close to...
