A friend of mine is using a iburst router \ modem at her office. Before she moved sites ( They moved to new building in the same office park ), they had another Pc connected to a wireless router, which in turn was connected to the iburst router. ( As far i understand, the router was connected to the iburst modem via a network cable, ie the lan port to one of the open ports on the wireless router ) So in essence, the one pc had the iburst router connected to it via usb, and the second pc connected to the internet via the wireless router, which, incidentally serves as a dhcp server.

When i tried to reconnect everything back at the new premesis ( i did not disasemble it ) i cannot get the networking set up. As soon as i connect the iburst modem to the wireless router, and i restart the modem, i get zero signal. When i unplug the network cable, i get signal? Any ideas?

The modem is suppose to go into the modem port on the router, then you would have to access the router to check if the settings are still work as the router will then just login to the modem and you wouldn't have the the hassle of having a seperate computer on.

With the info I've given you will require having a broadband router, usually they have four ports at the back for the devices that need wiring and a seperate port for the modem.

If you supply info on which wi-fi devices your friend is using, it would really help in finding a proper solution.

Here's the solution. Dont use the Lan port on the Modem. Set the ip range of DHCP to 192.168.0.xxx on the wireless router. Then, set up ICS on the machine the iburts router is connected to via usb. Select the correct options when asked what your internet connection is and what the network adapter is that connects your pc to your network. Then, on the desktops, make sure you use as a gateway 192.168.0.1 as this is the defaul ip for ICS. Viola.

Standard Networking of an iBurst device

iBurst must be connected via an Ethernet cable to the Internet or WAN port which is on the router.

Using an Ethernet cable connect your PC to one of the Ethernet or LAN ports at the back of the router.

Check the gateway IP you have achieved on your local area network connection properties.

Use this IP to login to the router via IE or browser of your choice.

You will be requested to enter a Username and Password. These come printed in the documentation provided with the router.

Once the Interface of the router is displayed you need to find the Internet / WAN / Broadband section.

Set your connection type to PPPoE.

Input your iBurst user name and password.

Set your MTU's to 1392 (standard use) or 1352 if you are going to be using a VPN tunnel on this connection.

Once saving this your connection should be established within 20 seconds. If not reboot router.

Do not forget to change your login password of the router, set up your firewall and then set the components of the wireless netwok including wireless security if required.

Should this not have the desired effect please contact me so that I may be of further assistance.

You can also insert your USB modem in the DOVADO UMR, which allows you to share out the internet access with ease over WLAN and/or LAN. It also allows you to use your existing fixed broadband as either a primary or secondary form of internet access in case of a internet failure. There's a thread here about that:
