Nope. Wired bell, TV and Video machine Zapped beyond repair. Old telkom phone still good as new.
 
Maybe its not hitting the telkom lines at all, I think it could be hitting your main power source.

Replace your earth leakage with a Earth leakage with overload protection.

Not a bad suggestion, but chances are that it will be too slow to react as it will have to be quite slow to prevent false positives.

Get a proper surge protector, one that can protect from surges on RJ11 (phone line), RJ45 (ethernet) and power lines.

This was with induction only. An earthed Rail way bar was struck outside. Mains supply is on the opposite side of property with only bell button,wire and TV antenna close to the contact point

Yip, on my setup, i have a multi plug strip with surge protection and it comes with RJ11 protectors.
 
The wired version of this would be Fiber. Glass also does not conduct electricity or static pulse.

I have consider that, but fiber media converter is not cheap. When lightning hits, there will be a high chance it will kill the fiber media converter together. :(

Considered trying Homeplug units if latency is a worry?

I have tried before, however I get random disconnecting between the homeplug link. :o

So after every time your router gets hit is your phone 100% fine?

My phone works fine, my Downlink Line Attenuation dropped from 25 to 30... T_T

How much latency does 10cm wireless add?

Not much 10~20ms, but it cause disconnection when playing MMORPG with this setup.

I have give surge protection/arrester for RJ11 before, it still takes out the router and power supply of the router is working fine. Maybe I should find an electrician come and have a check.

Buy a better quality one, one that comes with a guarantee that it will cover the device and x amount of products damaged behind the device.

Thanks for the heads up, heard of the ones with guarantee, but always thought it was a gimmick. Will give it a try again. :)

Tie a knot in the telkom cable, tight, lightning doesnt like corners you will replace telephone cable but not your router!
 
Let me explain a few things here.
I live in an enormously high-risk lightning area, we are installing an early warning system because the risk of being hit while outside is like 70%

Lightning conductors make the spikes induced into the house's wiring, even worse. Ask HHK and anyone else, they will tell you if the lightning rod goes in, you need surge protectors on everything.

I have lost tens of thousands of rands of equipment in less than 2 years, it blows farking everything that is plugged into a wall socket. Even cables lying on the floor are picking up 2000V or more.

This is what worked for me:

1) Class B lightning arrestor on every plug socket (R450 a piece). This is NOT the pithy little plugs you buy at the Pick n Pay. This is a proper unit from an electrical supplier.
2) Lift ALL ethernet cables and power leads off the floor. Cables running through the roof are least affected.
3) Unplug the ADSL when the weather comes up, don't be a hero. I have a massive surge module on the phone line, its just not worth the risk and the insurance not paying out.
4) Unplug computers, printers, and everything you can when the weather comes up.

Where I live, we all run massive losses when the lightning hits the cellphone mast, 190m away. I have, however reduced this by doing the above. Trust me, when that mast gets hit, it ain't pretty, it even knocks out the power, and it takes like 4 minutes for your hearing to return after the loud bang.

What is your reasoning for nr 2?

I installed a lightning rod at our home when we moved in and we haven't lost a single item to lightning in over 4 years. Lost a ton of stuff at our previous place. So I don't agree with the first bold sentence. There are two opposing theories on how lightning rods actually work. One is that they attract the lightning and dissipate it into the earth harmlessly. The other one is that they continuously discharge the air and thereby reduce the chance of a strike. From my experience the second one is more likely. Our lightning rod also hasn't taken a strike in the 4 years we've had it, and we get very hectic weather up here in the highveld.
 
Where I live the earth is full of dolomite rock, so when a cable lies on the ground it becomes a secondary winding in a magnetic core. Lightning rod acts like a lovely primary winding.

Under the concrete in my office is a massive badass rock that has fair amount of iron content. That should explain it sufficiently.

Lifting the cables off the floor has meant I have not lost a network switch port or ethernet port since implementation so I am pretty sure its induction.
