networking messaging

Hi all

I would just like to ask whether there is something that you can chat with people that is on the same network as you.

eg: i'm in room 1, and my brother is in room 2...

Can i have a program that allows me to send messages across to the other computer?

If so... what is it called? Where can i get it?

There used to be software called pc anywhere. Good for linking and diacnostics and helping users even in remote locations. It also had a talk facility. Is any one still using that software?

Personally me and bro use the bonjour service through pidgin but i'm sure you could find another method by googling. And net send would be a crude method of doing it (only works if messenger service is active)

Does skype not also offer a simmilar service such as windows messenger?
Then there is the conference type of software also available.
