Hi

I was wondering if anyone could help me with a problem I am having. There is a pc at my work that is unable to connect to the internet nor ping any other pc on the network. Everything was fine until this morning.

Any ideas?
Thanks

Physical problems like cables that are loose? Check if any of the LEDs on the network adapter are lit/flashing.

Cables are properly connected and the LEDs on the network adapter are lit. Still can't connect or ping. PC picks up an ip conflict when we assign another pc the same ip address.

That should make sense to you. IP conflicts will prevent the PC from accessing anything on the network. Assign it another unique IP in the same range/subnet as the other PC's. Just change the last octet.

We tried assigning the problem pc with another unique ip but get the same problem - still can't connect or ping.

Install a new network card. I know you said that it can be "seen" over the network(the ip conflict thing), meaning it does work, but it might not be working 100%. This is the easiest way to determine and eliminate hardware hassles.

Your network switch may be setup with the ports assigned to another VLAN, you'll need to see if that is the case, which means your point will never communicate with other points on the network. Simply set your network point on the switch to the same VLAN as the others. (this is assuming you've got Cisco or 3Com switches that do VLANing)

That seems to have been the problem:o Found out when we tried connecting a different pc to that particular network port.

Thanks for the help and advice everyone:)
