Ouch, the prices for all hdd drives from Seagate at least have gone through the roof... Apparently the factory was located in Sendai

I've noticed the difference between 2TB & 3TB is now so small (typical R1299 vs R1599 or something) it may be better to go for the highter capacity drives.

Look out for makro specials, the externals work out way cheaper than the internals, you could just open the internals and take the harddrives, problem would be the warranty though

That's a very good deal, the best price on a 2TB from the wholesalers are around R1500 now (cape town).

Just bear in mind to check whether the HDD is Sata3G or Sata6G.

Most suppliers are moving away from Sata3G hence the increased price in retail shops as Sata6G is still bit expensive.
