New 3G device manager for Linux!

Paul,

1.99.7 shipped whit a silly bug, the first time you configure a profile the connect button wont work. But if you close and start the app again it'll work

It still doesn't work if I close the app and try again.

In the diagnostics screen I see VMC number : Not supported is that a problem?

Thanks
Paul

No Sierra cards supported :(, but we do support Novatel's u630 and u740 which are really similar to the Sierras. Devices just one serial port are supported, but you gotta write a plugin :P

Hi Pablo,

Are you able to write the plugin for Sierra AirCard 875 if I can provide you with the AT command documentation and the card ID? Just let me know what you need .....

I found that after installing VMC my wvdial config stopped working.
pppd kept exiting with error code 2
Removing VMC allows my wvdial config to work again.

Why don't you pop by the -devel mail list and we add support for the 875? Writing a plugin is as easy as before, you just need the AT strings necessary to switch from "3G Only" to "GPRS only" and write a new module in vmc.common.hardware.sierra (have a look at vmc.common.hardware.novatel, is really simple)

Thats because your /etc/ppp/peers/wvdial was pointing to a dead file. Perhaps this was caused because of a conflict between two parallel installs of VMC. Error code 2 is -supposed to be- seen when u have two conflicting directives, but is also seen when ur /etc/ppp/peers/wvdial does not exist.

Oops, I didn't have main ticked in the sources list:o I've got twisted and VMC installed. When I try to run a pop-up says the following:
Permissions Problem
Vodafone Mobile Connect Card driver for Linux needs the following files and dirs with some specific permissions in order to work properly: /etc/ppp/pap-secrets should have 0660 mode, found 0600 /etc/ppp/chap-secrets should have 0660 mode, found 0600

Any ideas about this problem as I am unable to run VMC?

Hi everybody :)

(I'm sorry if this happen to be double or triple post, posted it as reply but not shown in the thread??)

I'am new here, but interested in the topic since I have an HSDPA Card (Sierra Wireless Aircard 875).
Actually the card works just fine in laptop running Ubuntu Feisty using only KPPP or wvdial.
But since Sierra 875 support SMS and voice call I want to be able to use these features too.

After reading this forum thread I am really happy that there some hope for my card to works.
Is there anyone already write a VMC plugin for Sierra Aircard 875?

I've tried writing a simple one, using VMC 1.99.7 (tarball version) as base, but it doesn't work yet.

Here's I've uploaded the code: vmc2-sierra875-plugin.zip

I run python setup.py install and then run vodafone-mobile-connect-card-driver-for-linux-debug

Here's what I got:
(Because it's too long I've uploaded the debug output here)

The application showed up but it seems waiting forever in progress bar 'setting the devices' mode.

Any clue what happen? Or what should I do to make this card works? Are there any other files should be added or modified?

The Sierra 875 AT command references I'm using is from here

I'm sorry for such long post. I have subscribed the devel-list, but I think it still moderated.

Oh yeah FYI:
I am from Indonesia, using Telkomsel provider (listed in resources/extra/neworks.csv as 51010 TelKomSel Indonesia)
My testing machine is NEC Versa E3100 using Ubuntu Feisty kernel 2.6.20-16-generic

TIA

Asep, the -devel mail list is not moderated. Why dont you send this again to the mail list? You're almost there!

I can provide some (eventual) assistance here, but the best place is in betavine's forums or in the mail lists, more and more users need support lately and I can't really fight in two places. If you have read my last posts you'll see that I've been trying to direct elaborated support requests to Betavine. I'll continue to provide support here whenever I can, but I'm paid to provide support in Betavine not here. Hope you guys will understand. (this is not directed to Asep at all btw)

Hi Pablo,
Actually I have registered my gmail account (anmsid at gmail dot com) through mailman interface. But I did'nt receive any notification yet (is there any notification or welcome message that I have registered the list?)

Maybe It takes sometimes.
I'll just try to post a message to the devel-list anyway.

Thanks

Help Please!!!

Hi Tohir

Once again thanks for the help. I just have one question. I downloaded a package and extracted it.It left me with files and I took the file (vodafone-mobile- connect-card-driver-for-linux-debug) and copy/pasted it into the terminal. it gave a whole host of workings. It ended on a line: "Failed to load application: [Errno 2] No such file or directory: usr/share/vodafone-mobile-connect-card-driver-for-linux/gtk-tap.py"

Do you know how I can resolve this problem in any way?

Authenticated error

Hi there, i've been struggling with this issue for a couple of weeks. first off system specs :

OS : Ubuntu Gutsy 7.10
Kernel: 2.6.22-14-generic
VMC version: 1.99.19
Modem: Huawei E220

what happens is i start up the VMC software (as sudo). it proceeds to load almost successfully... gets to the "Authenticated!" message and promptly hangs..

what i then need to do is restart the app a couple of times until it finally does load. next problem is that even tho i connect somehow linux doesn't pickup this connection.. so back over at the terminal i type sudo ifdown eth0... disconnect VMC, sudo ifup eth0, and while that is searching for DHCP connect vmc.. then i can get online..

I'm sure you can see how this might get tedious :)
debug dump to follow (since i'm using the connection at the moment)..

thanks

Varen

debug log as promised above..

Awesome working 100% with 8.04, posting this on my E220, Ubuntu 8.04, lekker.

Great. Did in work straight out of an ubuntu installation, or did you have to download some dependencies first.
