I have tried all day today to contact a Mr Herman Potgieter, who is apparently the only person who assigns user ADSL user accounts in South Africa.

The service staff at 0800 237 500, when they got over the shock of the fact that I wanted to query a new dial-up account application (not an additional 3Gb, not an additional mailbox AND without an adsl line installation!), gave me three (012) numbers that they have been told are the only way to query an adsl account application.

One number has the man's voice mail saying it's full, try again later, the 2nd is no longer in service, and the third is an automated answering machine that is also full.

Is there some other way to query? Please tell me there is ...?!

Well, it's been 10 working days, and still no response to my online application (I gave up after two days of "this message box is full").

Can anyone suggest a competitively priced alternative?

Just in case you're feeling lonely, i can't find anyone at Telscum who knows anything about my ISDN application i sent in about 10 days ago.[:D]
You gotta love em.

Telkom - South Africa's Handbrake to progress.

Hello there.

Try Sentech's Wireless Internet Broadband offering...

Here's their website URL: http://www.sentech.co.za

Cheers!

Like so many things in life, I find that the only time I have any problems with most companies is when I need to interact with Humans.

WIth a withdrawal at an ATM by Card, there are no problems. Try get money from a Counter, and there are problems, ID, signature, limits, and the inevitable 45 minute delay "while we get your signature confirmed by your branch".

Go to Telkom and get "exceptional service" provided by someone who does not know what forms I need to fill in because he has not heard of ADSL and wants to know if that's a busines service or part of the Internet? Apply online and never get a reply. Phone Telkom and get to a voice mail message that permanently says "try again later" ?

I don't want different or exceptional ADSL access, I just want the standard product, and am prepared to live with the foibles that make it up - the 3Gb cap, the occasional drop in service, the fluctuating speeds - all of that.

I have investigated and got my company to go with SA Domain (http://www.sadomain.co.za). Not the cheapest, but based on their painless enrolment process, friendly sales staff (accepting Cell calls on a Saturday evening!) and link with SAIX (good for gaming, I tell you!), I have recommended them to all my friends :)

Thanks for the suggestions :)
