A friend of mine just moved into a new place, and she asked me to help her with setting up a new connection for her. She already has a phone line installed, now she wants a 384kbs line with a 5gb cap that she can share with her housemates.

So question: Who's the easiest ISP to go for in Cape Town area? should I do my line rental through the ISP or through Telkom? What is a cheap modem to buy?

Get the line rental from Telkom. If you get it from an ISP and decide to move to a new ISP you have to cancel the frigging line with the ISP and then re-apply for the line with Telkom or whomever later.

Also advise them to start using Gmail accounts so they don't become dependant on the isp email addresses allocated to them.

Line from Telkom and Google eMail address means indepence to move ISP at the drop of a hat if they give you *****e...
