new adsl install

so I finally decide its time to move to ADSL seeing as thought the 192k package makes it almost affordable (yeh sure). now I had applied for ADSL before (384k) but had called to cancel the order AND had told the telkom monkey who called me that I had called and cancelled it.

so I reapply and they tell me my order is still pending from last time, so I figure what they hey, if I skip a queue and get it done quicker thats cool. so after a bit of PT they finally claim the install date will be the 28th April. 28th of april comes and goes and nothing, everytime I call these people I get a new story, apparently theyre waiting for me to confirm. this is after I have honestly called them 6 times. so sunday I get a call saying can he do the install now, he said he called me on my landline which was constantly engaged (which is ISDN with no phone duh) so he comes through, very nice chap installs it all and tests and hes off in 30 minutes. great.. so now wheres my account. he gives me a number to call which is only available during office hours, yay.. mondays a holiday too. great, 2 days with ADSL and no username. so a good friend of mine finally lends me his spare username and I keep my browsing down to be nice to the cap.

so now its tuesday and I figure let me get my account from telkom, I call some 0800 number and the lady tells me she cant give me my account cos the adsl install order isnt booked off, you cant have two orders on one number. great, day 3 no account.

oh and its currently installed as 384k (they screwed up) so 3 days with 384 (read free.bandwidth) and no account.

so who else is decent? anyone using this budgetadsl.co.za account?

Oh it all sounds so terribly familiar. More or less the same happened to me, but refusing to accept the situation, and persistent calling (on my part) to various numbers given to me by the various Telkom people who could not help me, I finally managed to talk to someone who was able to give me a username and password over the fone. When I asked him how it was possible for him to give it to me straight away whilst the others kept syaing that I have to wait 2 weeks for the account, his answer: "You're speeking to someone who can do his job, and do it well"

My advice: Don't take it lying down, keep calling until you speak to somebody who is able to help you. 6 times is not enough!
 
Give the guys at Axxess a try. 5min and you have your account!
 
I also had to wait until today to get a password, but never even thought to go to Telkom. I got Adept 2Gb (R188) and it took less that an hour this morning.
 
Yep, a familiar scenario for me too. Only myself to blame though, for choosing TelkomInternet as my ISP. I was so young & naive :D

xanex, check out Hellkom for more efficient ISPs out there ;)
 
If I could give you advice call Telkom up and cancell before they create the account. This will spare you the endless trouble you will have to go through when you decide that the 3G cap is in all honestly not going to be enough. If you are planning to just check your email and browse the web go with Telkom ,but if you are planning to play games online, dl stuff and being online 24/7 give Axxess a try. They had me up and running in no time.

thanks for the replys :)

I can proxy off my work in the evenings so spare bw wont be too much of a problem. I decided to try budgetadsl.co.za for a month, applied around lunch time but dont have a user/pass as of yet :(
 
got a call just after 5 from budgetdsl with my account.

finally all is sorted ;)
 
got a courtesy call this morning from budgetadsl guys to ask if all is well. :)
 
I think I will give them a shout in the morning, already used up one of my aco****s ! damm Telkom 3 GB limits
