Telkom (finally) installed my adsl line yesterday...but it is not working...! The telkom dude tested the line on his notebook (adsl apparently working but could not log on using his own modem). According to him it was just a problem with his service provider. When I tried to logon with my own modem it also happened. Any ideas what they forgot to turn on etc...cause they keep on telling me the reason I can't logon is becasuse I did not buy my router from them...

Which modem do you have ???.

Firstly check if the line is ADSL enabled by checking if the modem can sync with the DSLAM (usually an LED and also indication on the diagnostic page of the modem web admin).

Secondly the modem must logon to the ISP login server using PPPoE with supplied login name and password.

Also check your VPI and VCI and LLC settings of the modem.

PPPoE
Multiplexing LLC-BASED
VPI=8
VCI=35

Check that your primary and secondary DNS is configured.

Telkominternet for now they double checked the settings a few times with me last night and the account is active on their side. I borrowed another modem and same problem there must be something wrong with the line....

do you have yourpots filter working?

do you have a phone as well as adsl ?

if so does it have a pots filter

Just make sure you're using LLC-Based multiplexing - thats the problem I ran into.

So my line is finally working after Telkom told me on several occasions it was my private router which is causing the problem. (The problem was at the exchange they put me on the wrong circuit or something like that).

I have to admit though ADSL is WAY better than Sentech and MyWireless ....
