Hi Guys,

Recently moved to Welgevonden, Stellenbosch. Got my Telkom line within a week (can you believe it?). Applied for a 10meg ADSL line from Axxess. They just got back to me telling me Telkom only allows them to apply for a 2meg line.
has anyone ever had a similar situation? How is this possible? and how do I get around this?

Thanks,

Havent had that before, but if you read through the forums here you will see most people recommend keeping your ADSL line with Telkom. There might be a small difference in price but its really not worth the trouble if you ever want to move your line etc. Perhaps Telkom wont give you the same problem if 10mb is indeed available to you.

Type in your address and see what your exchange supports. It's highly unlikely that your ISP wont get you the fastest speed your exchange supports. Since the faster your speed, the more expensive your package will be.
Also do some searching, perhaps fiber is available in your area?

Lastly, you could search for a wisp that offers 10mb.

1. VernomZA, as idk_0 suggest. Always, and we mean always have your DSL connection with Telkom.
A pain at times, in the long run the best option.
You buy bandwidth from whatever ISP you prefer.
=> I am in the process to resolve a similar matter / dispute between Web Africa {cannot provide service as WA claim Telkom say it is not available} and Telkom {claim service is available}.
Once Telkom employees decide to work again a new line will be installed. The verdict will be made known.

2. To equip yourself. Test other phone lines near you on the exchange to see what is available. maxum suggested this to you with link.

3. Only get Wifi from a WISP if you can absolutely not get a fixed line connection.
