New ADSL Line in Centurion

So I just moved to Centurion and the house did not previously have a telephone line. I applied about a month ago for the ADSL so that it could simply be installed once I'm in the house, hoping that any preparations that they need to do, will be done by then (I don't know al the technical bits what happens on their side).

Anyway, there are now other issues holding up the line like my address not coming up on their system but something that the guy that came out said bothered me a bit. It sounds like they expect me to lay underground conduit from the Telkom box (which is about 4 houses down from me) to my house and then they will pull the cable through that. Isn't Telkom suppose to lay the cable and everything? Since when must the customer dig up other people's driveways in order to get a Telkom line installed?

Do your neighbours have adsl or Telkom lines?

I do not know. Everything here in the city seems to be underground. Where I come from, the lines used to be on poles. From what I understand from Telkom, my neighbours across the road however do have a line (they picked that up on their system). The little Telkom box is however on my side of the street, a few houses down, but I have no idea if anyone else have Telkom lines.

I had the same problem. I'm in Eco Park. So basically the developers are/were supposed to lay conduits from a central Telkom landing spot to the individual houses. In my case the developers managed to get cement in part of the conduit and I had to lift a brick pathway myself to remedy. The trustees and property management agent were completely useless.

Sounds familiar. I ordered my telephone to be moved to a new address (inside a complex). My neighbour has a telkom box. Telkom came yesterday and to my dismay the telephone cable is lying rolled up (with my unit number attached to it) inside the manhole approximately 16m from our unit. Telkom can't put in the infrastructure and I now have to do this at my own expense. Getting quotes today to see what it'll cost to trench and lay conduit and pull the cable through...

I've been trying to get telkom to install a phone line for me in Eco Park for close to a year now. Apparently there's no infrastructure in my complex
