Hi everyone

Currently I'm using a 2Mbps line + package which comes to a total of R670.

However, I'm quite impressed by the new Afrihost home uncapped deals. R499 for 4Mbps and line rental + R189 for the analogue line comes to R688. After 80GB you will be throttled during busy times (isn't that shaping)? My household uses approximately 100GB per month. Is this deal worth it?

Hi :)

Throttling does differ to shaping, so with the Home Uncapped accounts, if you reach your threshold your whole line will be slowed down, as opposed to shaping, where only certain services are slowed.

Hope that makes sense.

Oh I see :)
Thanks for telling me what the difference is.

Which services are shaped in peak hours and what are your peak hours for premium??

Only our Premium Uncapped accounts are shaped.
Peak hours is essentially whenever the network is busy, this can vary. During December things are pretty quiet. Peak business hours is usually when it's the busiest, along with any large OS updates/ patches.

Will Afrihost offer uncapped 5mbps ADSL data accounts since Telkom is upgrading users 4mbps lines to 5mbps?
It doesn't help to subscribe to an 8mbps ADSL data account just to use your 5mbps line at full speed.

No Point in them offering 5mbps Uncapped packages due to ADSL Overheads you will only get 4mbps speeds on a 5mbps sync, so with the new 5mbps sync rates, you get what you are paying for - 4mbps.
