Hi all,

We just got our new apple tv (the black one).

Obviously it has no harddrive, so you stream from the MacBook.

I have a few questions though, if anyone can assist :

- if you download movies from iTunes, where does it store it, and can you move it to the TimeCapsule, if storage becomes an issue?
- are you able to stream from the TimeCapsule?
- does anyone know if you can use NetFlix in SA?

Tx

You can't download movies onto it. Only rent. You have to stream from a Mac or PC running iTunes in your house. I don't know about streaming from a Time capsule, I don't think it can do that.

As for netflix, I'm also not sure! I know you can jailbreak it and put Plex on which is awesome.

I take it you bought it overseas, because I haven't seen it on sale here.

Hey

-When you download a movie or tv series from itunes on your macbook, it will store it in your homefolder/music/itunes/itunes media/
-yes you can stream from the timecapsule, you have add the folder which has the movie/tv series you want to watch to your itunes library. You do this by opening itunes on your macbook the click on File and then Add to library, if the files are itunes compatible, it will add them, if they are not however, ie. downloaded mkv's or avi's then you are going to have to jailbreak your atv and install plex. If you want to know how to do it go to http://iphoneblogr.com/2010/11/how-...ay-almost-any-video-file-type-video-tutorial/ this will tell you all you need to know. its really easy and don't stress, it cant "break" you atv. Im running it at the moment, and although its very much still a beta its working quite good.
-if you want to use netflix you can, but you need a VPN then, to give you a US ip address. Also quite easy to sort out, if you want to know how just google it. Im using PureVPN at the moment.

Let me know if need any help.
Cheers

The new apple tv does not currently support the jailbreak features of the old one. They are working on it, you can track the progress here - http://firecore.com/atvflash-black

The site will also show you the typical stuff that will be added as part of the JB - I expect it to include VPN, firefox and safari browser, flash, hulu, ...

Netflix works in SA if you have a us Ip address, For now (until there's a jb that enables VPN on the new atv) you could try to establish the VPN from your router to get netflix going.

The time machine can be used as a storage only drive - see this site for setup; http://gigaom.com/apple/using-time-capsule-as-a-media-drive/
I'd recommend that you Ethernet attach the tc to your laptop, otherwise it can be quite slow.

i have netflix working nicely on apple TV 2nd gen. must have at least a 4mb connection or streaming sucks. have a US VPN loaded directly to the router and all my decvices and computers that connect to can stream from netflix.
