New Broadband Option: Sentech VSat

Something that I left out on my first posting, is that the VSAT service is based upon a three year contract. You pay for the installation as well, but nothing for the 1,2m Dish and the sat router.

The equipment is subsidised in the three year contract

Heya Bacchus, please keep us posted regarding the hosting reliability. I have a server on a server farm, that i was toying with the idea of bringing it home and plugging it into the VSAT connection. But its a business server running quite a few domains. If hosting is realiable, then i'd be scoring a huge bargain with this package.

I'm still having trouble with reverse DNS on the Ip's, but I must admit that I didn't contact Sentech about the problem yet. Because of the reverse entry problem, i can't ypdate the Coza details, and the Primary DNS is not functional. I set up the Secondary to point to my site though. I'm not sure what the effect on the speed of finding the site will be without a Primary.

Have a look and give some feedback of what you think about speed etc.

AFIAK Sentech are the ones that have to setup the reverse DNS as they would be the delegated nameserver. If you havent contacted them, then it probably isnt going to fix its self [;)]

I am aware of the fact that the dns have not been deligated. Always a problem if you can't get hold of at least a C Class Ip range (who does anymore right). Just a bit busy with a few projects at the moment. The hosting is at this stage not so important for me. Thanks for your input

I was looking at their site for pricing, options, etc., but couldn't find any details.

Can somebody point me at who to contact, or where to look for pricing, etc.?

You can't send with a normal satellite dish. Need at least a 1,2 m dish and another LMB to enable you to send.

That each man have to decide for himself. My bussiness is dependant on a stable connection offering a true broadband service. By lack of anything else I had to take this service. I don't believe that the SNO will be able to offer anything spectacular in the next two years as they will be making use of Telkom's infrastructure. That is, if we will see the rise of the SNO in the next year. (What do you guys tink of Ivy's incompetence?) Telco's worldwide are struggling and the company that will invest in the SNO have a ****ty deal of only 51% equity.

For the immediate future, I can't believe that any service will make me regret the three year contract with Sentech.
 
You won't believe this.

After 8 days of use on the new Vsat line, I managed to pull just under 10 gigs (incoming). (Partly due to a permanent Nasa TV stream, and a few 700M movies on Kazaa).

I had the nasa TV on just to test the "cap less" service.

Did a few sums, and If I could managed to pull an average of 200kbs 24 hrs a day, then I could have downloaded 16 Gig!

The Freedom of no cap.
 
Wait till the service becomes popular and the contention ratio kicks in. I have R100 that says your tune will change.

I'm sure it will. But Remenber that I do have a Service Level Agreement (unlike my old ADSL line) which guarentee my bandwith.
