New cancer surgery.

Have cancer in the brain node that a scalpel cannot get into? A cancer that has spread outside of the throat to the nasal cavity or into the lymph nodes? Multiple areas of cancer that were not treatable 4 years ago?

That has changed significantly since then. No invasive surgery is required in future to treat any cancer as a new machine developed in the US has hit the market.

This is the "Edge Radiosurgery" machine that maps the tumor in 3 dimensions and attacks only those areas affected within <1 mm so no healthy cells will be destroyed.

A tumor can be destroyed with a single 10 minute blast but can be repeated for some days depending of the radiation strength.

My wife is going for this treatment for her cancerous throat tumor next week and my uncle died from it 5 years ago.

Cancer is no longer a killer. I did not post a link as a Google search will bring it up and even on YT.

I remember a documentary some years ago (more than a decade I think) on this. They were developing a machine that would send many lasers from many sources which would all converge at a precise point in the brain- where the tumour was. Individually the beams were too weak to damage brain tissue but together at the point of convergence it would 'blast' the tumour.

We have medical aid but all cancer treatments are only available in gov hospitals in Portugal. We had to travel 80 km to Porto Oncology Hospital that by the way is the largest hospital in the Iberian Peninsula for cancer research and treatment and has the most sophisticated machinery and instruments available.
It was the first hospital to use the Edge Radiosurgery machine.

They do not accept private medical aid or medical insurance as it is a gov hospital so we had to go back home to get a national state health security card from our local counsel and went back to get registered. We now have to wait 5 working days for the appointment.

The cool thing about getting this state health card is that we now get our medication so much cheaper and a doc appointment is only €2. We can now diss our private medical aid that cost us R1 350.00 pm.

We can now get free motorized wheelchairs and other aids plus hospice care and home care.

At this very same hospital a new drug for tumors has been tested 3 years ago. It is aimed at previously untreatable tumors that have spread to the surrounding organs or into the spine or areas of the brain. So far a clinical trial of stage 4 cancer patients that were sent home to die were treated and 87% have survived.
