Heya,

I need some advice... or sense talked into me.

My daily commute went from 10 km to about 120km. My job now requires a lot of travelling in and around Jhb- fuel paid in full though.

I have been very comfy in my Verloster 1.6 GDI N/A. However - it is a manual. That was never a problem until now. Im looking at trading it in for something with an Auto. My budget is sub R300k give or take a few k's.

Anyway, any decent hatchbacks you can recommend? Autobox, cruise control and safety are the main considerations.

If Hyundai's prices didn't skyrocket wrt their current line-up I would've considered another one, but now I'm forced to look somewhere else. I haven't driven anything apart from Hyundai for 10 years. So no idea what is out there.

I went to have a look at the Focus 1.5 Auto Trend. That 132 k/w feels amazing - it fits in perfectly into my budget. The 1.0 trend as well. Maybe a fiesta?

The mazda 3 looks great too.

Any ideas / wisdom you wanna share?

Thanks

RB

The full spec Ford Fiesta 1.0T Titanium with PowerShift is amazing, should also save on fuel and allow you to pocket extra change. ;)

You can't go wrong with any of these: Demo Mazda3, New Opel Astra Demo or used 2014 - 2015 Audi A3.

If you are going to do +- 28 800km a year (120km x 20 working days a month x 12 months) I wouldn't buy such an expensive car, as it will depreciate too fast.

I would rather opt for a cheaper, reliable 2nd hand car and drive it till the wheels fall off.

I agree. Although, do you know why the power of the MT is almost 20kw more than the power shift?

MT as in Manual Trans? There is no difference in power as far as I know, both just over 90KW, if I'm not mistaken.

Nope, The manual transmission version rated as 92 kw while the powershift version as 74 kw.

I thought the 74KW wasn't coming to SA.

The only 2 explanations I can think of is that Ford want you to go PowerShift so make it more powerful as an incentive OR its due the fact that the PowerShift is dual-clutch and the Manual's transmission doesn't handle the power quite as well as the PowerShift.

Made a typo earlier. The MT is rated as 92 and the Auto as 74. It sucks.

I'm completely thrown off now, that is odd.

I see what you mean, and it makes no sense why Ford did this. This whole time in my mind the PowerShift is the 1 to go for.

Maybe best to go with the Focus 1.5T EcoBoost indeed.

Yeah - that is still my Fav. Got a quote today. 1.5 Ecoboost trend Auto incl the driver assistance pack for R300k :D

The reason is to do with spec.

Titanium is the flagship spec. Trend is lower down. Exact same 74kw vs 92kw story for the B-Max & all those models only have a manual "tranny".

92kw on Titanium is another differentiation factor to push you purchase the top spec.
