New Car Licensing and Registration

I've bought a new car from a dealer out of town, because they put in the effort to get me the car I wanted. I'm currently driving with a permit, and the dealership is claiming that they cannot do the registration and number plates because they don't have the staff to do it. It seems to me like they lack the willpower to drive to my location (about 200km) and sort it out.

Are dealers obliged to do this? If not, am I going to have to take the whole day off work to get this sorted out?

Well I'm sure you paid an additional fee for license and registration - so yes they must do it.

Otherwise ask for a refund of that amount.

I agree with this!

Also, having just switched my car from my parents name to mine, I took it for the Dekra Roadworthy the one afternoon, (so last 2 hours off work/ to be safe) one could even do this in a lunch break.

And then I went extra early to randburg licensing office the next morning (30min before their allocated opening time) and I was 2nd in line...I had to go back that afternoon, because no where did it state I need proof of residence, but had I had that I would of been in and out in 30min and on time for work.

Did you pay the On the Road costs? If not, then it's actually easier and slightly cheaper for you to do it yourself.

It is a total ball ache for a dealership to register a car that is that far away, and I can empathise with them....unless they charged you OTR costs, then they should make a plan.

It really isn't a mission to do it yourself with a new car, however, and if you haven't paid OTR, just go and do it. If you have paid them, then ask for a refund of them and go and do it.
