New channel for DStv Compact subscribers

Exactly my feeling - quantity over quality. 48 000 channels and 3 decent ones worth watching.
Bruce Springsteen wrote a song called "57 Channels (and nothin' on)" way back in 1992. 18 years later and the only thing that has changed is the number of channels.

Value added to some people out there...!

I think that Koowee will be enjoyed by many isiZulu speaking people and they will find the channel a valuable addition to the Compact bouquet.

Look at the demographics. This is business.

The most widely spoken mother tongue is isiZulu. It makes sense to add it to this channel and give it to a larger population (i.e. premium plus Compact).

I was quite critical initially about what DStv has added in response to the entry of TTV onto the market, but after watching my son enjoy KidsCo and my wife Mzanzi Magic & MNet Stars, I think the pressure is really on TTV to provide a better service.

Here is what happened in my complex since TTV came onto the market; six new satellite dishes have been put up. Four were DStv and two were TTV. One of the two TTV ones is mine. So, DStv is doing something right and this is all thanks to TTV coming onto the market (i.e. better pricing in this case).

What this says however is that it is 'game on' in the satellite TV market and DStv is not being complacent.

Thank you DStv for adding the following channels to 'Compact', which my family and I now enjoy:
- KidsCo,
- Mzanzi Magic,
- M-Net Stars,
- SET (albeit before TopTV came onto the market),
- Vuzu and
- M-TV Base.

Nevertheless, I will remain critical of the fact that your subscriptions are still too high for people who would like to watch sports other than football as Rugby, Tennis, Cricket, Golf and Athletics are featured only on your R529/mth bouquet. This is grossly divisive as it separates the rich from the poor and perpetuates the stereotype of Rugby, Tennis, Cricket and Golf as being for the rich (i.e. mostly white people). This is a fact.

Perhaps MC might need to do something to address this and put their social responsibility ahead of their need to make a profit - remember they have rights to these sports for South Africa including for Football too. Google sports rights and look at what ruling was made in the UK with regards to this issue. BSkyB was forced to sell all its sports programming to its competition at cost price. That tells you something - that a monopoly allows one to charge irresponsible prices, which is what MC is doing. This is my only problem with DStv. Otherwise they are doing a great job responding to their competition and no problem with their customer care service.

TopTV - Take note.

Dude, that is by FAR the best and most well-thought-out response I've seen on any forum anywhere regarding this particular topic.
So thanks for not just blurting an uninformed opinion but for actually doing a little bit of research.

Awesome post!!!
