Hi Folks, I come to you all once again for help as my new PC is playing silly buggers

Built it on Wednesday, and it was running beautifully up until today.

Last night scored 10000 on 3dmark06, COD5 smooth as can be never less than 40 or so fps @ 1680x1050 settings maxed, was a happy camper.

Today, booted pc around lunchtime to check email/music etc and later on left to go out leaving pc on. Later on around 20h00 came back to find computer off  turned it on and no signal to lcd, unplugged tried again and booted fine. Loaded COD5 and with the same settings I was using last night it is unplayable (15-25fps), confused I tried 3dmark06 and got a pathetic score of 7900andsomething. WTF is going on?

Specs:
Intel E5200 2.5Ghz stock
Gigabyte G31M-S2l
2gb DDR2 800 transcend
Force3d HD4850 with factory Arctic L1 Cooler
Gigabyte Superb power 550w
320gb seagate sataII X2
samsung dvd-rw sata
Thermaltake case with good airflow
Vista Business 32-Bit up to date and latest ati catalyst

Temps:
CPU 27 Idle 32' Load
GFX 45 Idle 58' Load

Help please...

In the mean time going to put in another harddrive and load xp and see if I get the same ****.

hmm. doubt it turned off speedstep and it is now constantly running @ 2.5Ghz and Windows Vista is flippin fast! Will have a look though. Currently installing XP on another HDD.

Just got 9800 and something in XP. So it must be a software/driver problem in Vista.

Brawler did you turn off indexing with vista? Also can you get obtain a 64 bit version of that vista rather? Personally i don't 32 bit vista.

Brawler with vista leave your pc on for 1 hours and try again as indexing can take alot your system's performance away if you leave it on, with vista i turn off indexing and turn automatic update to manual. Was your vista Sp1?

When I plugged in my main HDD with Vista back in it scored 10000 again.. Didn't change a single setting. Only thing I can think of is that when I first opened the case it was VERY warm inside (was a hot and humid evening) and I ran the next 2 tests with the side panel off and it scored well.

Strange because my cpu/gfx temps were good?

Killa I have OEM Vista 32 with sp1 - would I be able to get 64?
