Ok according to this, the Android versions are fully kitted: http://www.google.com/mobile/maps/

I'm not sure about that anymore. My bro has the Desire and says his Google Maps gives him turn-by-turn voice directions. Version 4.1 or something.
I can't vouch for this 100% though
Could you find out at all? I'm probably going to go for the Desire regardless, will just hope for the navigation to get upgraded or something. But would be good to know.
My bro said it works with with turn-by-turn & voice navigation. Unfortunately he lives in Johannesburg and I live in Durban, but I will try to confirm with him later today and get back to you
Well considering the Desire is killing iPhone sales, I would say you can: http://www.eurodroid.com/2010/05/android-vs-iphone-sales-story-hits-the-press/
Have you even tested a Desire??
Lets see the difference between the two:
Desire has an AMOLED screen (better than the iPhone TFT)
Desire has a higher screen resolution (480x800 vs 320x480)
Desire has a bigger screen (3.7" vs 3.5")
Desire has double the ROM (512MB vs 256MB)
Desire has a better camera (5MP vs 3.15MP)
Desire has a camera flash
Desire takes better videos (800x400 vs 640x480)
Desire has a better processor (1GHz vs 600MHz)
Desire is pre-loaded with full Google, Gmail, Google Maps integration
Desire supports flash
Desire supports MP3, AAC, WAV. WMA, MP4. H.263, H.264, WMV out of the box
Desire has multi-tasking
Desire has faster web browsing - in fact, it's has the best web-browsing speed over any phone currently on the market (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3Buh_dkzpYc)
Desire has an FM Radio
The iPhone has more built-in storage but no memory card slot - Desire can accommodate up to a 32GB memory card.
Do some research before offering uninformed advice
Sorry but that really is a 'blah blah blah' comment. A phone is designed to work in a certain way and if apple can make the iphone work just fine with those specs then whats the difference? I dont disagree that the Desire is an awesome phone, hell im dying for one, but by now i think we can safely say the value of a phone is not the sum of its of internal parts.
