Anybody know of any upcoming developments in CPU/Motherboards?

I'm looking to upgrade my PC and see that currently Dual-Core is the new thing (64bit is still not utilised).

Is there anything new comming out (in the immediate future) that's waiting for eg: tripple clore ??

dual core will be used so buy it

buy the amd fx 58 or 57 i think

dual 7800's

4 gigs of ram

and your set for around a year or 2

then start saving for 4 new cards 10 gigs of ram and of course the amd 10000+ running at 5000 ghz

I know intel are though bringing out desktrinos (like centrino but for desktop) but I wouldnt touch intel with a ten foot pole so ja...

Besides for that I dont think there is big developments.

Go for AMD X2

The Fx 57.

I think it goes in 2's.

ie FX53 FX55 FX57 FX59

BTW the latest FX57 goes for about R9k so good luck

I used to use AMD .. but since they cought up with Intel in price, I'm an intel convert now.

I'm on a P42.8 (HT) ...

But from what you guys are saying nothing new past the Dual core is comming as yet.

Maybe we'll have a Dual Core 64 bit proc soon :)

Try, if you can, go for the 4800+.
Its 2 Athlon64 4000+ cpu's

The one new thing from AMD is coming in January next year, maybe a little later. It will be a new 940 pin Socket. It will not be compatible with either the 939pin Athlons or 940pin opterons. It will be a completely new socket. Maybe wait for this.

Whats the point of that? anything new?
I think it a stupid idea, now every1 will have to go buy new MOBO's.
Thats one of the reason i dont like intels because of all the combinations of cpu & mobo

Yeah I hope AMD have some plan with the new socket. They wont drop 939 completely but the focus will be on the new socket.

FX-57 is a single core processor (the fastest one currently available). if you want high-end dual-core processing power, you want the X2 4800

btw, Socket M2, the new athlon socket is introducing support for DDR2. So there is some logical reasoning behind the new socket.

haven't read much about the m2 with ddr2 support, but it would probably be a bit of a waste, since amd is planning on a 'better/faster than ddr2' already

right now dual core proccesors are a waste of time, nothing supports it, games dont like it, i reccomend you to only go with dual core when windows vista is out
