The question has been asked often enough on other threads to justify being called FAQ. It also never gets answered, so perhaps now is the time to ask it on this sticky thread where it will not fade away so quickly.

When is MTN going to keep its promise to come up with new data bundles and/or muliple bundles so that it can move up a few notches from being the most expensive broadband service in South Africa?
 
Yes, lets please just get an answer on this. One of the newer iBurst packages is looking very attractive at the 500Mb mark in the absence of an MTN alternative.

We need a 0.5 Gb package priced at around R250 - R300. I feel that is the sweet spot that makes using MTN cost effective as a internet provide as opposed to a Telkom dialup connection + ISP account.

Hi,

I attended the broadband shoot out and challenged Brian Seligmann from MTN on this. He conceded that their R650 for a Gig was priced out the market. MTN's original plan was to offer data at R1.25 after the first Gig (Vodacom R2 I think?, but he conceded that they average user was using between 200 MB to 500 MB of data, so they don't get the price savings.

he said new bundles would be coming out to adress this in the next three to four weeks.

Now where have I heard that before?

If nothing happens by end of September I'm going to tell MTN to shove it. Fortunately (in this case) my contract is with Autopage which is such a mess that I can justifiably cancel at any time.
 
The question was asked 5 days ago (as well as many times before). Still no response from MTNBroadband. He answers the easy questions quickly enough - well OK not as quickly as the Vodacom guy.

Enough with "checking out the sweet spots". I am getting seriously pissed off with MTN.

I'm sure I can cancel my contract and quote this website as justification.

Has anyone noticed that all the threads containing MTN as a discussion topic have a negative undertone? I am so upset with MTN.

All this bad service just to agree to MTNSP's somewhat intimidating terms and conditions.

Also, why are many of the MTN service providers in such a state?

Sorry, of topic, I know...

I'd like a 250mb package please (still)...

Three weeks (from your comment) was on 23 September ... and four weeks is on Saturday ... so I presume we can expect a press release in the Sunday papers.

I am beginning to regret recommending an MTN contract to my sister - I can't believe you can't even ADD another 100MB bundle during the month.

Come on MTN - we all want to support the non-monopoly, stop making it so hard!!!!

350MB Bundle at last!

I don't know if this is posted elsewhere on this forum.

From correspondence I received from MTN recently quotes the following:

It was communicated on Friday, 30 September 2005, that MTN will launch the new 350MB Data Bundle on 1 November 2005.

The details are as follows:
350 MB Bundle (Peak & Off Peak)
R 220.00 Subscription
Effective In-Bundle - R 0.63/MB
Out of bundle - R 1.50/MB
 
The out of bundle cost p/mb is a tad high, don't you think?

I'll still take it though.

Cube, I asked MTNBB for more info and he had someone from the MTN Innovation Centre send me an email with the details I've posted in this thread. So, yes I have to believe the dates quoted.
What I'm not sure is why this is not common knowledge as the email clearly states that this info was communicated on 30 September. Perhaps it was only an internal memo....
 
I'm not so sure that 350Mb is going to hit my sweet spot, but I'll take it.

500Mb for R300 would really **** my crank ;-)
 
I was expecting a "few" bundles, not just one! I only use my cell to download e-mails and browse a few sites when I'm not at the office. A 50 mb package and 200mb package would really fill the gap.
 
350mb Available on MTN PAYG

In case anyone has not noticed the PAYG Databundle menu now also has an option available to load a 350MB bundle @ R220. Cool.:)
 
I phoned MTNSP on the 20th October to enquire about data bundles and was told that only 100meg and 1gig bundles are available. I bought 100, but I will be seriously pissed off if 350meg comes out on the 1st November. (Come to think of it I will be even more seriously pissed off if it doesn't come out on the 1st November so there we are; I'm due for a bad day regardless.)

By the way what is MTN PAYG?
