Yesterday and today I have been experiencing slooooowww access to some sites. Interestingly, sites such news24, mweb and our own site hosted at UUnet, Cape Town were slow. Some of our end-users were compaining too - the common thread, you guessed it, Telkom as the ISP.

We tested using our UUNet dialup and an Absa dialup (goes via IS I think) and these worked better. Called SAIX which helped f all - they tried to pass the buck to MWeb (my adsl ISP), even though every idiot except the SAIX technicians seem to know it all goes through Telkom in the end.

Fortunately UUNet were _slightly_ more clued-up: they said that their peer-to-peer netword with Telkom was overloaded. They didn't think to post a network notice though, nor did they know whether anything was or would be done about it.

End result if you have been trying to access anything on the UUNet network you may as well plug in a 14.4 modem.

I suspect that the overloading may be due to the month rollover and the Adsl rush after last month's cap...

Couldn't we do like an exchange student program, except with our government instead? We could swop ours with one of the Asian Tigers' that take technology seriously and realise it's importance in global competition. Seems our gov is too busy letting corrupt officials waste our money in protracted court cases....

Lol... Government exchange programe would be a good idea. You could use ours to test how people handle when they get really pissed off.
