I bought an ASUS from the States that had Global warranty, saved my arse when the screen went so definitely check on that.
I think local laptops are always expensive (sadly, R35 000 seems about right). Best you can do is find an alternative with a global guarantee and then buy off an overseas website, especially a US one as their tax is lower. I used PowerNotebooks at the time. I've been eyeing a Lenovo Y460 - comes with stylus but sadly, guarantees seem to be channel based.
