Can anyone give me more info on this DEMERIT SYSTEM (points system), are they using it at present, or when will they bring it in affect.

I can't remember the proposal about it a few months ago, but to my knowledge you will start with something like 12 points and for each offence you'll lose some points and get a payable fine.
When you've lost all your points you can lose your license for either a certain period or permanently.
Perhaps the other people can confirm, but I think it starting begin September in Pretoria or something?

It always supposed to start being trailed (in Pretoria) each year since a couple of years ago. IBIWISI...

De-merits will only work if there is enough policing to keep demerited drivers off the road.
At present they can't even keep the unlicensed drivers off the road.
The system will just be another well meant farce.

Sad but true - laws are only worthwhile if enforced.
I believe we even have laws against murder and rape!
