Hi

I have noticed that there are a bunch of new dialing prefixes popping up around the country... they are usually in the lines of

xxx 001 xxxx

and

xxx 002 xxxx

which are geographic VOIP prefixes, but now I have noticed

xxx 086 xxxx

Is this a VOIP service or is it new Telkom prefixes?

They were numbers that were previously reserved from use (probably because they would confuse people).

Now they have been assigned to Neotel and the VOIP providers.

They were considred confusing because somebody might look at 011-021-0743 and think it was a Cape Town number (cos of the 021) when it is in fact a Guateng number.
In other words, the second batch of numbers too closely resembled the national provincial prefixes.
But they needed them when Neotel came on board, so they re-activated the numbers.

these numbers are not related only to Neotel.
One of VoX's range is 010 001 xxxx
O-Tel's range is 012 786 xxxx, 021 786 xxxx, 041 786 xxxx etc.

Um, maybe that's why I said... "they have been assigned to Neotel and the VOIP providers"???

schurtek,
if you want to know which range belong to whom, please ask, i'll gladly inform you. we interconnect with all providers,so we have all their ranges loaded within our infrastructure.

Mo,

do you have the geographic ranges or only the non-geographic ranges ?

Hi,
We no longer deploy 087 numbers. We've found that many callers see it as a premium number and avoid calling it, causing our commercial clients to lose business. We now have 95% of our clients on Geographic Numbers.

Just an excerpt from our website FAQ:

What areas/provinces can I purchase DiDs in?
O-Tel has National DiDs thanks to its nationwide service deployment. O-Tel’s current offering included the major cities codes, such as 010, 012, 021, 031, 041 and 051. Other number codes include 013, 014, 015, 016, 017, 018, 022, 023, 027, 028, 032, 033, 034, 035, 036, 039, 043, 044, 045, 047, 053, 054, 056, 057, and 058.

Cell phone prefix 062

Thanks for all the info MO

I have someone who has a cellphone number with prefix 062. I could not find this prefix in the old announcement that ICASA had "cracked open" the 06- range. When this friend with the 062- prefix phoned me on a telkom line I asked him what service provider now uses 062- ? (Wasn't that once-upon-a-time Windhoek, Namibia?) He replied: Cell C uses 062-. Has anybody got more information about the 062- prefix?

Hi

We'll need the 3 digits after 062 to be able to determine precisely the operator who has this range.
