New Discovery Vitality rules kick in

We got 300 points each a day for steps. Now just a 100? Sucks balls that they just make it harder every year. So much of my running counts as nothing without an expensive HR monitor?

Depends what you call expensive. Check out your options. I think there is a polar strap that is about 1000bucks. I got lucky and made the investment of 2 fitbits for myself and my wife a few years ago. These have certainly earned the 1800bucks I spent on them.
Anyways. Look at what you need.i say that as 100pts a day from 10k steps is manageable on most days. So 2-3k in points a month means you probably will hit gold.. Along with the online tests and the health check. So it just means slow and steady vs this year where you probably racked up the points super quick.
So yes it's disappointing getting squeezed. But it's not impossible :-) have to be positive!

HRM only worth it if you are going to average well above 80% of max HR. Do you easily do so?

Ouch, the Polar H7 used to be R995, but now it's R1395:

You could also go for the Muvit HRM at Makro for R399 which is compatible and was working with Polar Beat app pre 2 April.

edit: If you want 25% Vitality HealthyGear discount off, you had better visit the Bio first and do the online fitness quiz.

Do these HRM sync to s-health?

Never measured my heart rate but it must be high seeing as I am still a novice and pushing hard when going for a jog. Going full until Im spent.

Have any of you been to the bio yet? I want to do it....

Well finally the new points are here, sad thing is that Discovery has moved from one extreme to another. Pre-April it was giving away way to many points based on activities, now its impossible for highly active members to get many points. The new HR zones are a complete farce.

to hold over 80% of you max for an extended time is like doing all your training at race pace, the only think that will happen is you will end up injured. Remember the heart is a muscle and it gets fitter as you do, hence you have to work harder to get the same results. Just wait for all the claims to roll in from injuries such knees and ankles, not to mention a few heart attacks from couch potatoes who try and hold 80%.

I am glad I do not have an apple watch so I can watch and see this crash and burn.

^ Spot on. Regarding claims, they won't pay for anything out of hospital and if they do, it's coming out of your MSA which is your own money!

What do you want to know? It's a step test which measures how quickly your HR recovers. If you have been training cardio (or even weight training for a couple of months you will likely score full points for the test, assuming you are training hard)

They check other things like flexibility, pushups, crunches and ask you eating habit questions, but the only thing that counts is the cardio step test, whether you are a smoker or not (and maybe your BMI / goal weight story IIRC). 2k points for doing the test, up 5.5k bonus points depending on your fitness level.

Regarding S-health syncing with HRM device, someone else will have to answer that, I'm a newbie to S-health. NEver saw anyone mention syncing to it with a HRM device.

Do you belong to a gym? You could measure HR on one of the cardio machines there.

Dont belong to a gym. Want to do the bio test because it sounds interesting and never done something like that.
