New Fibre on Openserve

Hi All

I would like to find out about the best option for a new fibre installation on Openserve.

Axxess is currently having a special until month end for free installation, so I was actually going to go for that.
Then I read some people complain about their speeds etc. So now I am a little bit confused about which options to choose from.
I currently have a 4mb adsl line and I would obviously like the fastest connection but unfortunately cannot afford that.
Going to a 10mb would be fine for me. Some torrents, moderate amount of streaming and occasionally some FTP downloads otherwise just normal browsing. Currently I am doing about 200GB per month.

So my question.
1) Uncapped account: Afrihost, Axxess, Crystalweb, Cool Ideas or ....?
2) Capped account: Afrihost, Axxess, Crystalweb, Cool Ideas or ....?
3) Will 4mb fibre be faster than 4mb DSL?

In terms of the Uncapped I see axxess has a premium uncapped account which is what I will go for if using Axxess.

PS: I am not a fan of shaping at all....

Thanks

Axxess lists the following on their website under their terms and conditions:

Openserve Fibre Combo Promotion
Clients signing up during the Promo period which ends on the 31st of May 2016 will receive their installation free. Should the client cancel, transfer away or split their Fibre Line and Data service within 24 months of the Fibre Line being activated, the full installation initially covered by Axxess will become due.
The Fibre Combo Promotion is not applicable to Resellers.

Openserve Fibre Installation Promotion
New and existing clients signing up during the Promotion for an Openserve Fibre Line will receive their installation and connection free, saving R2850.00. This Promotion is valid until further notice and includes Resellers.

Anyone that can explain the difference between the two?

I find myself in a similar situation, but have come to the following conclusion (based on my internet needs):

Having confirmed that one can use DSL data on an Openserve FTTH installation, I intend to subscribe to ISPAfrika's deal of R469.00 per month for a 10mb line (installation is free until end of June 2017).

For data I intend to use one of the capped offerings - 100gb's for R99.00 per month (with unlimited free data between midnight and 6-8am, dependendant on which data provider one uses). The reason for capped data is purely because it will run at full line speed and is normally not shaped, uncapped data is speed limited dependant on the deal and is throttled once you exceed the "soft limit"

I am also leaning towards breaking the dependancy on Telkom's landline and am in the process of looking at the options of having VoIP with my fiber installation.

If my understanding is correct, I believe that the ISP one uses for data has an influence on speeds, latency, etc.

4mb DSL would be slower than 4mb fiber - purely because fiber now replaces that last copper mile, which limits line speed based on the distance you are from the exchange and copper having more resistance than fiber.

Do you know how this would work if you choose to move to another ISP to handle your line later on? Especially regards the installation - is staying with ISP Afrika for one month enough to get a free installation?

I do not see any clause regarding the "Free Installation" should one elect to change to a different service provider after a month of signing up on the documents I have reviewed thus far, but I am sure like most other ISP's, there will be some clause that requires full payment for the installation cost should one elect to jump ship within the first 24 months (after all it is only fair imo).

I stand to be corrected but Openserve can't transfer Fibre lines as yet. If you want to change from ISPAfrika to some other provider, you have to cancel with current provider and start a whole new application. I hear Openserve is currently working on a system that allows clients to change providers like ADSL. So not sure if your plan will work...

Corrected: I migrated from WebAfrica to Afrihost recently. OpenServe has some sort of 'waiting pool' system where the ISP's have to pick up a pending line in order to provide internet services. The process was quite fast and painless.

Lucky you. I've been waiting over two weeks for line migration. Line deactivated by Mweb 4 days ago.
