New Fortuner questions & comments

Hi all, I already posted this on another forum but I would like some of this forums knowledgable members to reply,

I replaced my 2010 4x2 facelift Fortuner with a new 4x4 Fortuner and I have a few questions.

Is there a way I could activate the central locking feature as was standard on the facelift Fortuner?

How do I decativate that irratating buzzer when I'm driving?

When driving onto a gravel road can I put the small gearlever from H to HL or from HL back to H at normal driving speeds, or do I have to stop and change? I am currently stopping completely then changing.

I can comment that the drive in this new 4x4 Fortuner is much more stable on gravel than with the 4x2. I can even feel a difference in the 4x4 when in HL mode than when in H. The 4x4 feels more stable on tar than the 4x2. I supposed this is because its a permanent 4 wheel drive.

I had a chat to a service manager at a Toyota branch and he told me the new 3.0D4D Fortuner has new bigger injectors. This will result in a better fuel economy and a better pull. I am getting a better drive and the new Fortuner feels slightly more powerful and I am getting a better fuel economy, but I don't understand that the power and torque specs are the same.

Is it me or is the aircon a little weak? On the facelift Fortuner I usually had it on Cold with the first speed. Now I have to keep it on the second speed to keep cool. Maybe the weather is warmer now than a few weeks ago.
 
I do not really have knowledge with the Fortuners but would like to say congrats. Very nice cabbie that...
 
Best description I've seen for a 'tuna: 'it's like a Macdonald's burger: it will satisfy your hunger but it's not very tasty.'


Just be careful on gravel roads, them 'tunas tend to roll over ;)

Maybe the power delivery curve just differs from the old one.

That quote I have heard with of many other vehicles.

I have driven 15000km of gravel roads with my old 4x2 Fortuner in the last year and its still on all 4s.
 
Have you posted this question on the 4x4 Forum? You are likely to get a few more answers than here.

As for getting rid of the buzzing noise....wear your seatbelt...:p

Yes I did post on the 4x4community forum.

I'm just kidding with the buzzing noise. I have a bad habit of only putting on my seatbelt after I change into 2nd gear. I do however always wear the seatbelt.

That IS a bad habit. :eek:

Best you get out of it fast, before you actually need the belt before putting it on...

The D4D engine is notorious for eating injectors. IIRC they're about R5k a pop, so watch out.

Lots of D4D owners install in-line diesel filters to prevent this from happening.

I have taken an extended warrentee to 220000km which covers the injectors.

I presume that warranty automatically comes with a prescription for aggression pills, previously the sole right of BMW owners, and now the sole right of anybody in a Fortuner or Toyota 4x4 bakkie?
 
For auto door lock, speak to agents, they should be able to activate by plugging her in. They could possibly charge you.

For seat belt, go to a scrap yard and get just the buckle, then plug it in, boom sound gone, however I really would recommend using this feature as remember no seat belt no air bags, but seat belt thinks it is on and boom your eating some airbag with nothing holding you back.

As for changing h to Hl, IMO if the car lets you do it whilst moving etc with no warning or no noises then it should be fine but best to check with the agent

2-stroke oil in diesel???!! For what? Is this one of those urban legends that will miraculously improve fuel economy or a scientifically proven fact??
