I just got my Galaxy SII...

What should I do with it? Should I flash the ROM? What should I download?

What is the best way to experience the awesomeness?

I just rooted and installed a few root type apps. The GPS doesn't seem to be quite as good as my desires though so may try flashing a different radio at some point. There's no real need to do anything though, it's awesome already.

Shot guys, hmmm, lol are they really calling it ice cream sandwich?

Is it worth rooting? Does it make a big difference?

I suggest you root the SGS2 as a first step....In my case the one and only step as I'm using the stock ROM. I loaded ClockWorkMod from Chainfire with Odin to root. This allows you to perform a system wide backup using Titanium Backup, allows you to freeze or even remove unwanted system apps. I'm still using the stock ROM as I haven't found a custom one that I like. I'll probably flash 2.3.5 when it becomes official.

I read a while back that a hacking team was given a samsung gs2 to test on... I'll wait for that to come out too. shot guys

It is official. We just haven't received it in our country. I flashed 2.3.5 yesterday.

I need to do some more investigation into the issue of 2.3.5 replacing the bootloader with one that nullifies your ability to reset the custom rom counter to zero with the jig. I see Intratech has a 2.3.5 with an old bootloader that I might try. Is that what you loaded, mercuarial?

Yeah. I installed XXKI3, which has the old bootloader, so the jig still works. It is also a non-wipe ROM, so you get to keep all your goodies that are currently on your phone.

installed the XXKI3 from xda (just the kernel but it still shows my android version as 2.3.4 (was on XXKG2). Do i have to download the entire KI3 rom?

Got my SII Yesterday!

When is ice cream sandwhich out???

So when the new android is out i will lose everything on my phone or does it keep everything and just update the software?

They say next month, but I think we will get announcement and demo next week at Samsung's launch event to 1 up Apple, also see the new Prime.

Okay I've downloaded the rom, I haven't flashed it yet because I have been downloaded some awesome stuff that I do not want to lose... Will it remove anything, is there back up software that loads your apps back on?

I discovered Samsung apps, that's pretty sweet, downloading Asphalt 6 now... Hope it's as amazing as the download size!

I would always advise back-ups before flashing, look at titanium in case you need to restore.

As for Asphalt, awesome game I enjoyed it but like you said the 900MB data it comes as, is a pain if you dont have plenty of bandwidth to play with.
