New Gaming PC

The issue with any multiple GPU setup with the LGA1156 / 1155 platforms is that you only have x8 bandwidth going to the cards, instead of full x16. On the top end cards like HD5870 / GTX470 and up this results in a ±5% drop. That performance hit is usually only at 2500x1600 and up though. Faster cards will obviously have larger performance drops. But currently the absolute worst case scenario is 10% drop.

The Q9xxx series is only worth it if you already have a decent Socket 775 system and if you can get the CPU 2nd-hand for like R1k!
I usually suggest to people to upgrade to that if they're on a tight budget and already have a decent Socket 775 rig - otherwise go for Sandy Bridge!

Entry level gaming rigs are still bit of a problem for me though.

Friend of mine told me to rather go for the Intel Core2Quad Q9650 3 GHz LGA775 12 MB Cache CPU than the new Sandy Bridge Intel SandyBridge LGA1155 i7-2600K Quad Core, HT, 3.4GHz, Turbo OC CPU so which 1 is better for gaming

Your friend doesnt know what he is talking about.

Was looking to buy the Geforce GTX 580 graphics card. But now I am totally confused 10% is that allot or is it still managable if not what other processor and mainboard is excellent just for gaming? Is it worth it to sacrifice the 10%

Are you planning on going multi-gpu in the near future? The chances are you will require some really extreme circumstances to see any noticeable drop in performance - 2x570 or something like that.

Yeah i think that you should wait for bulldozer to future proof yourself...with that you can compare to intel then you can decide. I wouldnt recommend buying a pc now, thats just my opinion...

Just wait a while.

What makes you think he'll be more future-proofed going with Bulldozer than sandy bridge?

Let me explain I claimed from insurance they getting the machine build for me so I cant wait 2 or 3 months got to take the best there is now. Will at a later stage buy a 2nd GTX 580 card but not now.

Cash is king, they are going to screw you somewhere bud. Ask for the total in cash and buy what you like.

If you could rather go AM3 and say 1100T you'd have similar performance with 16/16 Xfire, and you could probably get in 2 6970s now. Is that an option?

Well, i told him that its his decision so rather wait, i think that AMD's gfx on chip would be better than intel's sandy bridge. You should know that its a new architecture with new features...and btw, im not a fan boy so i wouldn't say that its better, we just have to wait and see. Or do you disagree?

No go on the cash tried already. If u look at the benchmarks for the AMD processor it does fairly badly and the Intel Sandy Bridge 2600K comes in 3rd overall.

It's 3rd for a 3rd of the price of 2nd!!! What more proof do you need! It's an awesome buy if you upgrading now....

Look bulldozer will most probably incorporate some form of crossfire with the chip and an AMD GPU so you should get nice performance gains (I haven't been reading up on AMD lately so I got no clue where they at with bulldozer)..

Time wise whens the release I'm not sure, assuming it's near mid year, people will then tell you to put off bulldozer and wait for ivy bridge.. damn cycle..
I don't see bulldozer being a vast increase or any increase over sandy bridge really.. But I hope I'm wrong

Ignore bulldozer if you ask me.

AMD are so far behind by the time they release it intel will have something that whips it silly. If you are loyal to amd then wait it out.
