New geyser again!!!

I have very decent pressure. When the house was built the municipality guy asked me if I wanted the higher pressure as I live on an incline. I took the higher pressure. So now I can open multiple taps and all of them gives a decent stream.
Maybe some pressure regulator is needed.
Do not want to spend $$$ on solar and then it breaks as well because of the pressure.
Need to have a serious talk with the plumber first.

The Solar guys, if they do the job right, should put a pressure regulator on the feed into the geyser.

No choice, Insurance send them and everytime it's a different one. In fact, if i remember correctly, the firts time the plumber said to me that it will only last 2 years. Kwikot junk I may add.
I replaced my geyser in December after the previous one was over 10 years old (got it with the place). Called my own plumber and claimed from insurance that way. Just check your insurance agreement.

Gas moves in, wife moves out.
My woman does not want gas in the house, period.

Definitely a decent compromise, you may as well pack her bags for her just to make the move easier for her :D

insist on a different brand. We did. They complied.

Why though? Safety?

Gas bottles by law needs to be fitted outside a solid wall. No danger what so ever. And these appliances these days have fail safes in place. Like the stoves if there is no flame on the gas feed for a fewseconds it cuts off the gas. (Flame failure safety). As for the gas water heaters. It's not really a geyser. It's a box fitted to the wall that has copper piping run through it. You ignite it and the water running through the pipes heat up instantly. When done you switch the box off. We have this on the farm. It's AWESOME!. Instant hot water and zero wastage.

So i got woken up last night at 12am by the sound of water gushing outside, went to go investigate. was my neighbours geyser that burst, the water was gushing out of his outlet pipe in the roof.

I thought the rebate system stopped at the end of January?

Anyway, get an evacuated solar system. Price difference is not that much with the flatbed one. Almost 3 years now for me, and I think this month I am at break even.

look at the geyser brand.

kwikhot tends to do as yours is doing. insist on a different brand sabs approved geyser.

Purchased my first high-pressure Kwikot geyser in 1981 and have installed several since, as I change homes.

I have yet to have one fail ...

I know of at least two cases where the gas cylinders have exploded. The second demolished a brand-new kitchen, including most of the appliances.

Just wow. Never had or heard of any issues. I suppose it is still gas though and anything can happen.

They have 2 year warranties now... so I wouldn't honestly expect them to last much more than 4 on average.. I'm assuming LPCPT has decent water pressure, which will shorten the lifespan somewhat.

I have a water pressue issue at my house which I need to fix at some point. Its so damn high that it eats plastic fittings, I replace toilet innards at least once a year, and washers and such in taps about the same.

The secret is to install a whole house water regulator system e.g. a Cobra Masterbox House Water Station or a Kwikot Mono Box House Water Station. http://www.kwikot.co.za/Products/Pressure%20Control%20Valves/Mono%20Box.php

The units - which are relatively inexpensive - are installed (normally on an outside wall) on the municipal water mains into the house, i.e. as close as possible to where the municipal water pipe enters your property. Mine is installed on my boundary wall.

Doing this results in the entire house having a fixed water pressure and has a number of benefits e.g. you can flush the toilet whilst having a shower :). Appliances also work optimally.

And, having a strainer, it also prevents water-borne impurities from destroying appliances.

NB: It cannot fix under-pressure households !

This thread is very informative.
I am almost sure the plumber is going to tell me he must replace the geyser. same as going to an optometrist, these guys need to make a living.
Anyway still waiting to hear from plumber. They must have a lot of work.

And that's why you get the installation done by a certified installer, with a compliance certificate - and check the seals each time you change a cylinder.

(So if it does go kablooey, insurance gives you a new house)
