Hi all. I took delivery of my brand spanking new 7950 today. Needless to say, I couldn't WAIT to install it...
But the horror... It seems to be DOA. I put it in, hooked up the two 6-pin power cables, plugged in the monitor and started up my system... ABSOLUTELY NOTHING ON THE SCREEN! The fans are spinnng, but the card doesn't seem to be feeding anything to the screen. I use a DVI/VGA converter plug/socket, which works just fine in my 7850. I tried the card in another PCIe slot, but no luck. Exactly the same.

Do you guys think the card in faulty?

Here are my system specs:

i5 3570K
MSI Z77MA-G43 mobo
600W PSU

I feel like crying!

Plug your monitor into all the Onboard outputs to make sure your BIOS didn't default to Onboard display.

After removing the 7950, I put my 7850 back, which is what I'm using right now. Doesn't this mean that it should be fine?

Also you can try to only have your PSU connected to the motherboard and GPU, then switch it on to see if it works.

It should be, but you can try just to be sure.

Do you have another PC to try the 7950 with?

What is the brand and model of your card?

It is possible, though unlikely, that the DVI output is just DVI-D (Digital only) and not DVI-I (Integrated - both Digital and Analog) meaning that a passive DVI to VGA cable/adaptor won't work.

It is the PowerColor 7950.
It states the following: "Display Connectors: DL-DVI-I/ HDMI/2x mini DisplayPort"

Had the exact same problem! I have the PowerColor 7870 Myst, I sent back the card, and even bought a new PSU! After countless emails and phone calls I got responses from MSI and PowerColor. This problem is largely with MSI mobos. Previously I had a MSI H61 mobo and it didn't work with the card, then I bought a MSI H77MA-G43 mobo and everything works fine now. There are people on Newegg with the same problems (that's where I found out).

The MSI response: "if your video card has GOP bios then you will need to flash to legacy bios on the video card in order to work."
The PowerColor response: "MSI should be able to help you with a UEFI BIOS for your motherboard.
I know about the case on Newegg, I only sent that customer a Non-UEFI BIOS because the motherboard manufacturer could not help the customer."

Thus, the problem is the interference with UEFI BIOS from the GPU and mobo.

The first thing you need to do, get MSI live update and update your BIOS. If that doesn't work, get a new mobo or ask for Non-UEFI BIOS from PowerColor (although this is not advised).

OMG I don't believe it! Eish! I upgraded the BIOS alright... Made no difference whatsoever.
So a new Mobo is the only way out??
Probably would be a good idea to try it out in another PC first, just to verify it's not the actual GPU that is dead...

Is there ANYONE in PE that can help me out so I can test the card?

Test it out just to make sure. If you were in JHB I could have helped you out...

I had the same problem with a 7850.... chances are almost certain that your card is fine but it's having an issue on the board.

Hi There,
Time to take it back to where you got it and ask them to prove that it works.
Once you know that then try it in your mobo. if it doesn't then I think you have the answer to the problem though buying a mobo to solve an interface is not a cheap solution.

Hi all.

Update on this...

I took the new 7950 to a local retailer where they tested it for me on their test-bench. Same scenario. Card powers up, but nothing on their monitor either. So I think it is safe to say that the card is faulty.
@Killadoob - Yes. I am currently plugged into my oboard graphics which works fine.

The card is being collected from me, hopefully today still, to go back to the supplier so they can check it out themselves.
Will keep you posted.
Thanks for all the feedback thus far guys.

So the card was collected and shipped back to the supplier. They confirmed it to be a brick as well.
Received my replacement this morning, and it is running 100%.
Thanks to all!

Just finished downloading Crysis 3 this morning. Been playing it for about 2 hours now... It looks AMAZING!!!
