Hey Guys

Having some technical problems

I just got a Gigabyte GTS 250 1GB GDDR3 2000Mhz memory

I plugged it in and got a message saying theres not enough power and the card will be under clocked (Didn't realize I'm supposed to plug in the 6 pin thingy) Only thing I noticed was the memory was running at 1008Mhz instead of 2000Mhz

So I went and bought a new PSU 550w true power, probably a good thing coz the old one sucked.

I plugged the new one in and its still running at 1008Mhz (6 pin still not plugged in) but I already told the under power thingy dialog to not pop up again, so I dont know whats happening.

I eventually realized I must plug the 6 pin thing in which I just did and its still running at 1008Mhz... any idea's???

Thanks guys

One word: Power Management (okay, two words :p )

If you go and play a game it will increase it's speed to 2000MHz.

What power supply were you running beforehand?

My 9800GT runs on a Gigabyte 360W (360 peak, 300 average) (and several other components) and absolutely no issues....

Interesting, Ill stress it a bit and watch the results.

I had a Gigabyte 460w peak 400 average

It was giving me issues with the new card like not booting with all HDD's and fans plugged in, etc. and the card recommends 450watt so I think the upgrade was a good idea anyway

Considering what you just said it definitely wanted more amperage..... Not sure how much current the 12V rails the generic Gigabyte psu's push out, but it's not enough for your card.

You should therefore be fine now with the 550W.

Btw your CPU works similarly... both Windows and Linux OS's underclock your CPU when not all the processing power is required and it saves a significant amount of power.

Busy playing Bad Company 2 on the highest graphics now, its running smooth when it was lagging yesterday

But the memory is still running at 1008Mhz...

Did you run the app while you were playing? Or check it afterwards?

Yes, your graphics will lag if your pc suffers from a lack of power. It's like giving a 2 tonne car only 50kW of power :)

running the game for 10mins then minimizing and checking GPU-Z dunno why BC2 cant run windowed :/

Okay. Yeah most games these days don't bother writing code for windowed mode :)

Maybe your app is buggy. BC2 will lag if you play max graphics and it only runs at ~50% of your gfx.

Everything seems to be running perfectly now.

Someone no another forum said it might be the its 1Ghz in and 1Ghz out and GPU-Z and Gamer HUD is only picking up the out or something like that

Anyways, I'm happy with how its running now

Thanks for the help man
