Hi Everyone

Could you kindly let me know which of the following would you recommend
Gigabyte Nvidia GeForce 9400GT 1GB GDDR2 OC or Gigabyte ATI Radeon HD4650 1GB GDDR2 OC, I'm only going to surf the net and burn movies now and then, and will not overclock or play games.
Also why do they call these Graphics cards OC overclock,
has the GPU or Memory GDDR2 been overclocked ?

Thanks

in that case, do you like green, or red ?

....and welcome to mybb BTW..

If you are only going to surf and burn movies, then an onboard card would probably do the job. No need for a 1Gb card.

lol, I meant it as-in choose a colour! (if you like green, go nVidia... if you like red, go ATi hehe)

both these cards are WAAAY overkill for surfing and burning.
so get the cheapest, or if you like nVidia more, get that.

Edit: that's true nod - This was a trick-question, lol - I assumed he needed one heheh...

Gigabyte Nvidia GeForce 9400GT 1GB GDDR2 OC R 228,00 less than ATI below
Gigabyte ATI Radeon HD4650 1GB GDDR2 OC.

I can't use onboard graphics because I have the
Gigabyte GA-EP45-UD3R Motherboard. discrete board.

Are the above graphics cards entry level or mid-level,
because I would at least like a mid-level for future use.

Those cards are entry level. Why get the 1gb version though? You could get a 4670 512 for the same price and it would be mid level, around 8800gt performance. You don't need 1gb ram with an entry end card.

For the tasks you've mentioned, those cards will be sufficient. They are quite the bottom of the range, so barely entry level. Of course, it depends on your needs and what you want to use it for in the future. If gaming, mid-level will set you back between R 1000 and R 2000. If for future use for burning movies and net surfing, those cards you named are suitable.

Thanks Everyone

I think this one is better Gigabyte ATI Radeon HD4650 1GB GDDR2 OC,
like Qwikslver says, thanks for the link to jpg, I'll make sure I go their too
when I have internet access again.

seriously comtech you're wasting money to get a 1 gb card. There are no applications that a 4650 can run adequately that will need more than 512mb. Mind you it's DDR2...not sure about that tbh.

no i'd say he should get nVIDIA!!! yeah!

if he was playing games though, rather go ATI then....

I prefer the ATI, but Nvidia like i said is R 228,00 less than the ATI,

another thing I'm thinking about is power to run the cards,
Nvidia = 50Watt - ATI = 75Watt according to some websites.

Nvidia = 50Watt * 17 Hours/day * 30 Days = R 13,37c per month to run

ATI = 75Watt * 17 Hours/day * 30 Days = R 20,06c per month to run

difference is R 6,69c per month less electricity

and what about the heat in the chassis the ATI more heat less computer life.

The ati is the better card. Rather get the 512mb version though. The 4650 can't use 75watts because the 4670 uses 75watts.

And yes there is a new chart available. I've just been lazy. ;-)

your kidding, right?

will who wants to pay the municipality R 6,69c or more when it goes up
another 80% soon, rather play the lotto with that money

Dude seriously??? You worried about power consumption.... and computer life.. Right. Gigabyte Products got 3 year warranties, no need to worry about life there... as for consuption no way you can work that out individually... Install a power supply work on 50% efficency for what you gonna do, problem solve...

I am and nVidia fan, but take the damn ATI it better anyway
