so My friend wants to buy a new graphics card but can only spare a R1000,any reccoMendations on the best card for that price ?

Unless less u play exclusive pc games, might I suggest the CONSOLE. It'll last longer than than 1k gpu.
I Dnt mean to troll.

Wait till Tuesday night got some really crazy prices on Point Of View, Sapphire and Power Color vga card at really crazy prices for wednesday

Unfortunately your friend will need to upgrade his power supply if he wants to run any kind of graphics card. He's endangering his system to run it on a 300w.

+1 to what Cerberus said.

A decent 300W PSU would be more than enough, but I'd guess that his 300W PSU is more like a 200W PSU? If you can find out more on the PSU, like the specific brand and model, then you/us should be able to hopefully find reviews on it.

The graphics card that I'll recommend for sub R1000 is the Inno3D GTS450 Hawk 1GB @ R944.43.
The GTS 450 would outperform the HD 6670 and the GT 440: See http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/AMD/HD_6670/22.html and http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/ASUS/GeForce_GT_440/26.html

If you can get a better graphics card for R1000 or less from Esquire, then by all means go for it, but don't settle for anything less than the GTS 450.

i told hiM to get 550w it should run whatever he going to buy,ill tell hiM about the gts 450,is there any shops he can get it froM he doesn't really like buying online?

Thanks for that link Qwikslver! I paid like R1000 for that card (HD 5670) a few months ago and the price didn't really drop since then.

With that graphics card, you most likely won't need a new PSU either.

Unless his 300W PSU is a corsair, he will need a new PSU. At least a 400W Corsair.

The problem is, a lot of PSUs advertised to be 300W are closer to 150 or 200W.

I almost bought that exact 5670 with my pc last week. Is it better that the suggested GTS450?

No Fuma. The GTS 450 is a lot better than the HD 5670.

I have to play CoD4 on low settings with my HD 5670 & i7 860.
