New hack could keep Windows 7 going for years

A newly-developed tool could allow Windows 7 users to receive essential updates years after official support is ended, Softpedia News reports.

Microsoft’s operating system will reach the end of its support lifecycle on 14 January 2020, which effectively cuts Windows 7 users off from critical security updates and other patches.

The company has recommended that users update to Windows 10 to ensure that they are not left open to hacking and other forms of cyber attack.

love it, hack/tweak your original non paid for windows 7 update subscription to allow for official paid windows updates for free.
I'm sure there's irony in there somewhere....

So bassically not too different to what we've done with Windows XP , if you install unofficial SP4 it will patch the update system to still get xp updates for embedded platforms...

Or do the smart thing and go *nix

Yea cause the gaming experience on Linux is great , especially with drm wrapped games...

*nix isnt the answer to everything.
Actually nowadays with Lutris and DXVK most games on Linux is a non-issue, just work. Its just the bleeding edge new games that you wait a short while then they work too. I dont have windows at all anymore, all gaming done on Linux. You can follow the reddit threads for ultimate details: https://www.reddit.com/r/Linux_Gaming
