My new seagate barracuda 7200.12 500gb is making a lot of strange noises.

Started a few days ago, let me just say this hdd is less than 2 months old. Each time I start windows up it needs to scan the drive.

Is it failing?

I bought this at a small pc shop in pta and I can't find the receipt anymore. I know I placed it somewhere but it's gone now.

Our main is getting fired on friday, today my dad had to dig out most of his tax and work documents out of the trash and he is furious and I fear my receipt may have suffered the same fate.

Siiiiigh, any place where they can check you seagate warranty and repair it?

Lol, it's not possible for a 7200.12 drive to be out of warranty. They are just about a year old, and all Seagate drives have 3yr warranties these days.

Don't worry about the receipt, phone the shop and ask them where they got the drive, then you can most likely return the drive to their supplier. Or maybe the PC shop will take it back without the receipt (because they don't actually need one to swap it out with their supplier), it might just be the shop's way of having the customer hold their end of the bargain, so to speak. Just phone and check.

If all else fails, phone Ingram Micro and return the drive to them, as they are the official Seagate warranty handlers.

Some places will refuse to help you knowing they could get it swapped out easily. If they do this i suggest naming and shaming them.
